Hi

Yes I think you are correct. If you go near where the post office "was" (not sure if its back there now) and go left thats rua do casino I think. Ma Ja's is on there (well worth a visit), if you follow the road right up you come to the back of o castello.

You are right - if you come into Carvoeiro on the "In Road" to the Post Office (it has come back there now), then turn right and then immediately left you are on the Rua do Casino, which does run up past us to the O Castello Indian and Guest House.

Hope you enjoy your holiday :D

There are some steps down to the in-road which are probably near your apartment. So, 100m to the square isn't far off.

Used them last time out to return to the airport. Got picked up at the Carvoeiro Sol. No problems at all - would definitely use them again.

Always intrigued by this. Was there ever a casino there? Doesn't really fit in with the history of the village I'd have thought. Possibly used in it's other sense as simply a place of entertainment?

The road is called Rua do Casino because there once was a casino here. The building is still here, a beautiful old ruin that is couple of doors up from Ma-Ja's Restaurant.

Rumour has it that it was the first casino in the Algarve, but I am not sure how true that is.

Yes -it is a very impressive building - I 've never been in -its in a bit of a state but apparently it has internal courtyards with gardens and was once really something . I've heard some people wanted to develop it but there are disputes over ownership - various families own bits of it - and so its been allowed to just decay - shame really .

Well thanks for that - you live and learn. I think I can picture the place but always assumed it was one of those grand old houses you seem to spot in the most unlikely places in the Algarve. Looks pretty old - tends to indicate well off tourists are not a recent development in Carvoeiro.

I poked my head in. It is in a sorry state but has some lovely old roof timbers.

We are coming out tomorrow and I wonder if you can go up Rua do casino from the Post Office or do you have to go via Monte Carvoeiro? Thanks as I will be driving.

You now come up Rua do Casino from the Post Office to get up to Monte Carvoeiro. The down road from Monte Carvoeiro is now the one that ones past what used to be Rascals.
