Hi, can anyone tell me the best way to drive to Monchique? The last (and only) time I did it, I ended up going through Silves, getting a bit lost, and eventually, just by chance found myself on a country road that lead to Monchique. Does anyone know an easier, more direct route? Thanks.

Go to Lagoa and turn left on N125. I think you go over the Portimao bridge and then take the sign for Monchique this way you will avoid Silves.

Going through Silves is part of the trip for us. We often stop and have a drink and a look around the castle. If you have a TomTom or similar you should take it (if it covers Portugal, of course!). We use ours a lot in the Algarve and it's great fun to do the opposite to what you're instructed to do - you can discover many roads you've never been on before. Then, when you want to return 'home' do as you're told. 8)

Agree - go to Silves, turn left when you get into town and go in a straight line until you see the Monchique signs. You can't go wrong - I went yesterday the Silves route and it was signed the whole way.

Or go by the first route just past the Portimao bridge and come back via Silves. There are some cracking roadside restaurants.
