We stayed there for one night last April - fairly basic but adequate, clean room, good continental breakfast buffet and obviously good location. Didn't use the restaurant, bar or pool so can't comment on them, I'm sure you'll have a good time.

Hello Lee_helen,
Like Kteee--we've only stayed there one night--out of necessity(as we locked ourselves out of apartment!)-and as kteee says room was clean but very basic. Personally I couldn't have stood it more than one or two nights at most. We didn't get much sleep either--people coming in and out (it was noisy!!!) during the night! This was first week in September --weather was hot and so was the room!
We had considered having week there before this experience --but I wouldn't now!
Sorry about this --but Im being perfectly honest with you!
P.S. The staff were very nice :)

Interested in last post as I know hotel well but not really stayed there as I live here. Actually I did stay there one night after a Christmas Party but can't recall if I made it to bed or not!

I thought all rooms were with air con after the last revamp? I should think it is only really noisy in August. Great location - all happening right in front of you. Tell Julio the manager I sent you. Second thoughts - maybe not!

Biffa --we didn't have air-conditioning in our room(maybe it wasn't working!)--and boy it was hot--we hadthe bathroom door open & light on all night to keep some air circulating---and the window(ground floor) only opened at most 6 inches
i should think having room with balcony would definitely make a difference-----hope you have one Lee!
but as you say --great location--wish you great time :)

thanks

Thanks for that I was starting to think we had booked into a naff hotel.
We will be there in Feb so noise shouldnt be too much of a problem.

If the rooms are clean and the place is nice it'll do me.

Oh can you park the car at the hotel?

There are a few spaces outside but they are not reserved for the hotel, but again you shouldn't have a problem in Feb.

Here is my experience with the Carvoeiro Sol.

When I'm staying in CVO for a short brake (alone or with my wife or one of my children) and I don't stay with my friend Dick or during the summer in a rented villa, then I always use the Carvoeiro Sol.

I have been in this hotel for about 8 or 10 times during the last years.
(last stay was in december 03).
I find it a perfect place to stay with a very reasonable price. The rooms are clean and are cleaned every day. All the rooms I have stayed in (ground-floor at the pool, first and second floor) had airco. You also can use it as a heating in the winter.
The rooms have a TV; watercooker coffee and tea and safe and the bathroom is fitted with a hairdryer. The only thing I missed was a mini-bar.
Every day there is a happy-hour in the bar.
The swimming pool is ok (heated, allthough during my last stay it wasn't; forgot to ask why).
Breakfast is ok! I had once dinner in the restaurant; reasonable price; food was ok. (in december it was closed; very few people during that time).

The manager (Julio) and the staff are very friendly and helpfull with everyting you ask. It's perfect right in the middle of CVO (you can roll back to it after a night partying in the bars; the way back from the Carvoeiro Bar is very easy: it goes down hill)
I can highly recomend the Carvoeiro Sol.

Parking is possible in front of the hotel (but you have to pay; although I never did this in december) and at the backside of the hotel they have a small parking area. (you have to ask for the key at the reception to unlock the chain)

From my friend Dick I heard that they had a new years party in the hotel. Ilse (the Dutch girl) performed there (she is performing on the square in the summer and also in some bars in CVO) Her brother runs the Bar Anteak; a very nice place to get drunk! (in the last building on the left side when you drive out of CVO to Lagoa)

Look at the frontpage from CVO.com "Photo gallery" there are also some pictures I took from the balcony of my room during my stay in december.

Stayed in the Carvoeiro Sol for a week in July 2002, had a pool side room which I would have said was better than basic, the room was very clean and stylishly decorated, great bathroom and we also had an adjoining door to our children next door. The room had aircon which was brilliant and a very modern unit which made very little noise. Having a pool side room meant that we did not suffer from any passing noise and were not looking out over the square at kicking out time.

The location is superb, right in the centre of things and you do not have to use your car at night unless you actually want to. Plenty of on street parking behind the hotel (even in July so Feb should be fine).

The pool is fairly small with limited space around it but again even in July we were able to get sunbeds. The showers, poolside are good and stocked with shower gel and shampoo, which can give you a bit of a headstart on the night!

Buffet breakfast was plentiful although not fantastic. The staff attentive.

I am sure you will have a great time.

That bloody Dutch girl Isle is driving me nuckin futs.

Every time I am in CVO my girls insist on following her around every bloody night! (mind you she's not bad to look at !)

Her C.D. is played in our house all the time, I even sing some all time classics with a slight Dutch accent now!

I will be out again on Easter Sunday where will she be on, just to keep the kids happy you understand

I have been there twice...I had to complain to management about the rather large Cockroaches .....both times although the second time they were dead....The rather charming girl was quite shocked herself....so maybe it was just a one (Two !) off ???
Sorry to report this and it was three years ago...otherwise it was a very good 'Value For Money'...place to stay..it was winter and I bargained a room for £25.....maybe they put the dam things there so I wouldn't go back...???
