How much should you tip your maid

I have searched the forum but can only find a post several years old.

How much should you tip your maid? Lets say a three bed villa with the maid visiting five days a week. And... if you are staying two weeks should you leave a tip at the end of the first week and when you depart or just or wait until you depart to leave the tip?

Thanks in advance

Chris

We left £20 for 2 weeks last year, there were only the 2 of us and she came 4 days per week for about 45 mins each visit.

We tip 10 Euros per week at the end of each week.

I think that is probably fair for a 3 day a week standard service, then ratchet it up pro-rata.

I always suggest that our guests pay her directly if our maid does an extra service like washing or ironing for them.
Our maid knows that we are happy if she does these extras.

We don't have the luxury of your maids, Bruce. Ours do the basics mop floors, make beds and clean bathrooms.

We stayed for two weeks and we gave €40.00. We decided that as the cleaners can have a thankless task and less-than-generous salary we thought we'd show our appreciation. We even told her that we would clean the villa each day and she didn't mind at all!

On our last day we didn't see her as we were in Faro. We left out the money a thank you note in Portuguese. Upon our return all my clothes drying on the line were gone! She took them all down and ironed them for me. 9 shirts and about 8 long and short trousers. Makes you feel very humble!
