Excluding the owners of this joint, I thought that the cafe/bar they bought was not much different to Smilers in it's ambition, service and "general" cafe/bar on the Algarve. The way they handled the transaction and the total lack of knowledge of the Potuguese system was beyond belief and they soon realised that a day on the beach when they fancied it was not on. Yes it does make you throw your hands up and yes it's a compulsive look for those that think it's going to be a doddle to buy and take over a business. Mike

ps. not out until June but will deffo pay it a visit to see how they are getting on. Hopefully very well.

Hi guys,just got my first night off ,eight o clock last night ,since before xmas and settled down to watch this,just let me say that no matter where these eejits set up shop they,er going to struggle,the oul wan whinged the youngfella whined the da drank and the wife just went along,and jaysus if i wanted to have breakfast with people this bleedin,depressing i,d marry freddie krugger,s feckin,granny.and what was the deal with the staff there must be dozens of bright smiley friendly young people with loads of energy who,d be delighted to work a couple of hours a day in the sun near a beach,god knows they had enough time to find them.Why do the english think that the proper attire to prepare and serve food in comes from a war on want shop,look at the lads in cvo ,clean white shirt black pants scrubbed hands and a professional attitude,christ it,s not rocket science, but do you know all of the above would be forgiven if they had looked as if they were enjoying themselves shared a few jokes,laughed a bit and above all be nice to each other ,nobody likes a guy whose nasty to his mammy cos she becomes all our mammys.
Jaysus its great to vent all that spleen,now,happy new year to yis all,many thanks to the ones who answered my 14 year olds question about the colitas he certainly got a bit of education (and it seemed like such an innocent question),and im really sorry about the poor oul dog with the colitas ,ive had customers with same complaint mother of god ive had stuff linger around the bar that ye wouldn,t find in iraq and then the sneaky way they eye each other up and try to shift the blame and then to make it worse they look at you,the hures.
By the way an eejit is a kind of non-offensive way of calling somebody a clown.

Took a walk past said snack bar on Wednesday (market day when all the Brits on holiday are bused in from their hotels along the Algarve) on the way to the restaurant at the bottom of the ally. At least all the Union Flags have now gone. However it looks as though they have fallen foul of the licencing system again. They have a snack bar licence, but were advertising 'Fish and Chips' which needs a hgher class of licence. So they now have notices up saying that they are ''prevented from selling Fish and Chips by the Portuguese authorities.'' At least the 6 weeks or so that it will take to get the proper licence is during the winter quiet season.

Glad all the flags are gone!
Bet all the Brits will miss those fish& chip though!
By the way..can anyone tell me...where you can buy what I call 'real fish& chips'..I haven't yet tasted the real McCoy anywhere there!
The best fish & chips is cooked (as you will sample in Yorkshire for example) in beef dripping( ican see all the health people throwing up their hands in horror! ) and fresh not frozen fish.

o dear...a licence to sell fish and chips..I think Ive heard it all now....and there i was thinking Portugal has a future?????
