Lovely photo Jeremy
Lesley if you paint the scene Id love a copy of it..you are a very talented painter.
This has made me look at the old book I have by David Wright and Patrick Swift called 'Algarve' published in 1965. Theres some really good photos in it such as one of 'rice girls' in their lunch break..
When we lived there, I was told there was once rice fields on outskirts of Lagoa. I wouldn't be surprised at that, as we saw gulleys filled with water, and white Egrets feeding there....and one time on a walk from Lagoa into the countryside we came across a huge turtle half buried in the road (it had wandered from the fields)
Theres couple photos of Carvoeiro, one of a fish auction on the beach and a fisherman with his nets. But I can't put them here as it would be breach of copywright.
There are a lot of black and white drawings and apparently Patrick Swift lived in what they called the 'big house' in Carvoeiro(where that would be I don't know)
One sentence speaks of white cottages with filigreed chimneys climbing up the cliffs to the chapel and the coastguard station.
An interesting book
