Hi,Next August I am planning to fly into Madrid and then drive from there down the country stopping off at a couple of places(Seville)being one of them before heading along to Carvoeiro for 4 days before heading home from Faro airport. I am looking at car hire options at the moment to get a rough cost but I am struggling to get a company that I can hire the car at Madrid and drop it off at Faro....am I missing something here? Why does it seems impossible to do,to take it from Spain to Portugal or am I looking in the wrong place?
Any people that could point me in the right direction would be considered superstar!

Try Avis or other international hire companies. Just out of curiosity put in collection at Madrid on Friday with drop off at Faro next week and I could have booked it. I know companies such as Avis are not the cheapest but are very flexible. Good luck.

I would imagine almost any hire company whose cars aren't parked in Car Park 4 at Faro will be able to let you do what you want.

Thanks guys,I have looked further into this and I can do it but the price is horrendous......our plans were to have car for 4 days from Madrid to Seville and drop off as wont need it in seville for 2 days, easy enough....then pick a car up again a couple of days later at say seville airport and drive to Cvo for 4 days before dropping off at Faro airport but the prices are like £600 for this part of the deal!!!
I take it is that price because we are going to a different country?
Am I doing something wrong here or are these indeed the prices I am looking at?
An option could be to take train from Seville to Tunes....does anyone know if thias would be easy enough to do?

Have you thought about using a coach service. They do run from Seville to Lagoa and I think the prices are ok. I saw it advertised at Lagoa Bus terminal. Then grab a taxi to CVO.

We had planned to do this next June. We have friends who have just moved to Spain and it was our intention to fly to Malaga to see them, hire a car and return it to Faro after spending some time in Carvoeiro. If the car hire is that much we'll have to rethink our holiday.

I am also looking to do something similar next year but found Avis to be horrendously expensive too. I was hoping to get a train from Seville to Faro and pick up a hire car but this does not seem to be an option unless you go via Lisbon, very useful! I guess the bus is the only way but there only seems to be two departures each day at the moment - maybe more in the summer months?
I wonder how much a taxi would cost from Seville to Faro, does anyone know?

We considered doing this last year and gave up due to the cost. It is because the rental company has to send someone to collect the car and return it to the correct country.
Use public transport and hire 2 cars, sounds like the best bet.

Fly to Madrid and back out of Seville after visiting CVO. The drive back to Seville will only take a couple of hours and save you a lot of €

Good plan, Al. I think it worth looking into.

A few years ago friends of ours rang around car hire companies in Seville asking if they had any cars that required returning to Potugal. They found one that had to go back to Faro so saved a fortune on car hire. On the way back they did the same thing.
