Sir Cliff needs to get a Vida Nova

In a recent interview on his beloved Algarve Adega do Cantor vineyard, Sir Cliff, when asked the question "What do you love about the Algarve", replied "It's like Third World but with mod cons".
This went down like a glass of cheap plonk with some members of the community.

So Sir Cliff, 'The Next Time' you come for a 'Summer Holiday' in the Algarve, don't be surprised if the locals no longer say 'Congratulations' but 'We don't Talk Anymore', and go find somewhere else to make to your 'Mistletoe & Wine', cos we'll be happy 'The Minute Your Gone'.

Sorry couldn't resist the music puns.

Actually the rose's lovely, but his comment is really crap I'm surprised at him, but like his music he has obviously failed to move on with the times.

Ok shout at me if you like , but I think what he meant was , that it still has the old fashioned morals , customs and feelings of a time when the Algarve was not such a tourist haven , and was a lot poorer , it still retains its charm and personality, but caters for the modern world and the tourist industry by providing all that the 21st century visitor and resident needs.
So combining the two opposite ends of the spectrum , the old and new. I just think he worded it badly , and yes smack on the wrist. Ok he is famous , and rich but he is also a giver , and has helped to promote the Algarve , and is a great fundraiser, so come on give the gentleman a break.
xx

 I agree with you White Rabbit 2, but didn't like to admit it..... what is it about Cliff that makes you a closet fan??? I see in the paper today that his new record (which is only being sold in Woolworths) has gone straight into the charts at no 3, which means he has had a top ten hit in every decade since the 50's, he does get somethings right!

He probably went off the Algarve, when they built the Algarve shopping complex in his back garden!!!

I'd like to think you're right WR2 because I don't mind Cliff, my sister's a big fan & the first record I bought with my very own pocket money when I was a little girl was the Young Ones (yes I know, old as the hills). But I think if that is what he meant he did put it badly, to confuse old world charm with being a third world country is just daft.

I think by now somebody must have passed the message on that people arent happy with his comments , so pass this on
Sir Cliff please rephrase your comments or at least explain , why you said what you did.
I dont believe a gentleman of his calibre and experience hasnt got his finger on the pulse of the Algarve , so come on Sir Cliff get yourself on CVO .com.

As a fellow drinker with Cliff of that new-fangled espresso stuff they served in the 'Three I's' in Soho, I agree with his comment.

This is a third world country - and a darned sight better than the other two
