Reading through the messages a few people have mentioned the Modelo/Continente supermarket - could any let me know where these/this is??

Apparently it's soon going to be a Jumbo. Hurray!!

Havn`t heard of Jumbo, is it a supermarket or something selling electrical goods? I shall really miss Modelo I liked it.

Me too - it was good to have a good supermarket nearby without the queues of Intermarche.

Does that mean that all Modelos are now going to be Jumbo does anyone know???? or just the one in Lagoa?

I think it is just the one in Lagoa, since they took over Carrefour in Portimao they had too many Modelo/Continente stores in the area, so one had to go

Jumbo is a very good supermarket but they only have one at the moment in Faro. Modelo has got to close because there are too many Continente/Modelo in the area so Jumbo is allegedly taking over the premises.

Snap! Was just coming back on to add info on Jumbo - I think they are owned by Auchan the french supermarket chain

It will be nice to have an alternative to Intermarche/Modelo - just glad it's not going to be a MaxMat!

We have Jumbo here in Holland, it's a pretty good supermarked in Dutch terms, bit cheaper than the normal Alber Hein that seems to dominate Holland as Tesco does in the UK. I for one will be shopping there.

Jumbo was a Dutch supermarket company, that is now owned by Auchan. Hope the Modelo in Silves remains to provide competition for the rest.
