We are returning for our second Carvoeiro trip of the year in October, and half way through our week there will be my son's 3rd birthday. Is there anywhere anyone would recommend for either some balloons/banners for him in our villa, and a birthday cake place?
If not we will have to bring everything with us, thats all.

Intermarche will have everything, and they have a patisseire. There is also a good cake shop on the rua da farol....restaurant hill.

thanks Bruce. The cake shop on the hill - do you mean the one with all the fresh croissants etc. in a morning, or is there another?

I ordered a cake from Bellissimo (the coffee shop on the out road) for a 40th birthday a couple of weeks ago, it was lovely but you pay by weight of the cake, 10 euros per kg. You had to pre order, I asked for 2kg but it ended up being 36 euros in total, so very expensive. They did apologise for size, it was a great chocolate cake which was iced with a message and nothing got wasted!

Helydoce in Lagoa do great cakes - and Le Doce at the top of Rua do Barranco is pretty good too - I'm sure they could both help

that sounds so good, but there will only be 4 adults and a 3yr old eating it... so maybe a bit big unless anyone likes cake....?!

I am in CVO from 16 October for a week and am more than a little fond of chocolate cake. Just in case the dates coincide, I will tell reception to expect delivery of a slice at some stage.

he's 3 on the 15th , we arrive on the 11th for 8 days!

One of mine always had her birthday on holiday (it falls in Whit week), when she was was little like yours we did tend to take a cake with us from here, primarily as we found it difficult to buy one in what ever country that featured what was 'important' to her at the time e.g. Disney princesses.

The strangest thing was her birthday always fell the first day we woke up on holiday until she was 6 when she pointed out exactly what day of the holiday it would fall on - damn!!

Almost every restaurant will organise a cake for you, (which we have done ever since they stopped having to feature hungry catapillars or Barbie), just decide where you are going to eat on birthday night, they decorate them with "Happy Birthday Name", they come out singing with sparklers, the whole restaurant joins in and you get rid of the excess of sweet confection by asking the kitchen to give some to every table but it is very expensive when compared to what we are used to paying for a supermarket cake.

But at 3 years old, I would think a Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine cake for £5.99 from Tesco/Sainsbury/Asda/Waitrose will more than hit the mark.

my mum makes all the kids' cakes, she does them superbly - and will be with us, he will have a party when we are home with a proper cake, just want a token really on his birthday. wasn't sure if restaurants would bring a cake out like we do here, so that's good.

There is a party shop in Lagoa similar to the chain of 'Party Shop' in the UK they usually have loads of fun stuff.

As far as I remember it's on the road leading up from the municipal pool that joins on to the road where the town hall is.
