The Square

Just reading in the Portugal News that 700,000 euros is to be spent on improving the square in Carvoeiro. The main change is the removal of all the car parking "to create a social, tranquil and inviting area for residents and tourists close to one of the most beautiful beaches of the Algarve" - Mayor of Lagoa. There is also to be traffic restrictions on both in and out roads. There is to be a new larger car park "close to the Algar Seco road". Must admit we never attempt to park in the village, but park in Monte Carvoeiro and walk down, so for us it is a definite benefit. Hope we get a square that we can really be proud of. :)

Didn't say in the article, but the funds are supposed to have been approved. I know, this is Portugal. :)

Yes, but have they got planning permission ?

That could take another 3-5 years

Where is algar seco? I have heard regulars talk about it many times, however I'm not sure where it is.

Sounds like it will be by the little chapel at the top of the hill. Algar Seco is further along that road. Well worth a trip, very Indiana Jonesish.

The article said parking for 80 cars, and I agree laser, it sounds like it will be at the top of the hill near the chapel. I doubt that it would have been announced by the Mayor if there was still a question of planning permission.

Will they have oxygen cylinders waiting at the top for those returning to their cars?

I have heard rumours that the work will start this summer, around June time. I do hope this isn't true as it will cause chaos during the busy time. Surely they will do the work in the winter when it is quiet! Then again this is Portugal!!!!

Perhaps they'll install a vernicular from the beach.
