I just love bowls, I've played at, is it Gramanchio, but it's quite expensive there plus it's straight up and down sissy stuff which I find easy, is there a crown green in the vicinity, y'know where the real bowlers play?

I play at Santo Antonio Lawn Bowling Club in Alvor which has an excellent grass surace as opposed to the others ,which apart from Tavira are carpet or astroturf.
Annual membership is 65 euros and 7 euros per game (10 euros I believe for non-members) - which includes your membership of Bowls Algarve.
Apart from Club and inter-Club tournaments and league matches there are roll-ups on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
Social life is good with special events for such as Christmas, Valentines, Easter, Mid-Summer etc.
If you prefer crown bowls ask for rinks 1 or 8 which, particularly in very dry periods, tend to get a bit bumpy and crownish

Thanks for that I'll certainly get in touch, I must though take you to task on your statement "Bumpy and Crownish"What's bumpy about crown green, the art form of bowling, you'd be lynched in these parts for using that analogy, I'll certainly put you right when I get over

As a Yorkshireman I have played crown greens and what I was implying
(gone wrong !!) was that unlike most of the green, woods (to put it nicely) do not always follow their natural bias thus approximating to the crown green situation.
Slight undulations and a falling off towards the edge might have been a better wording

I have some retired friends that are part of a bowls league in Lagos, if that's of any help. Being young myself I don't know much about it.

I play for a local club and I love it, obviously I play for the Vets and I find the members as competitive as any sportmen I've met in any other sporting activity, some of them can't get down to bowl so they use a stick with a grab on the end to pick their woods up, they then bowl like Barnes Wallace, fortunately, I 'm still active and can bowl normally, not very well, but normally, apart from the odd stagger. I'm hoping bowls will continue to be my major interest for a few years to come.
