Carol made reference to this in her newsletter but nobody took up on it.

We are intrigued at what must be the vast amount of money being spent on this over the past year.

It appears to be constructed of loose stones in wire mesh for the bed and banks (i.e. porous) with the old vegetation being allowed to grow through it and designed to carry semi-treated water from the new water treatment plant.

Are there any drainage experts on the forum who can explain the workings of this expensive system - why not for example just a simple pipe-line, is it going to smell in hot weather, are the plants there on purpose or by mistake, when will the first little kiddy fall in and drown because it is not covered, what happens when it becomes clogged up with rubbish etc.

There is water treatment system that relys on the impurities being absorbed by the plants.

These " reed beds " take untreated sewarage and convert it into clean water.

Maybe this is the idea.

Im not 100 % sure but I think this is what has been built here in our village. Up until now we all had septic tanks (some,like us, have kept them)..but I was told that it is an ecologically based one using plants as tbbr has said, although I have to say that its has been done very tastefully with nothing in view, just a small building for the works but it has been grassed and planted up with trees.

Roy, maybe they ran out of money?

p.s. Although when we had the recent summer floods, the system packed up for a while and some couldn't use their loos......lucky for us, ours worked fine
