Anybody know if any of these are going to be near Carvoeiro? I understand a Conran hotel is being built at Quinta do Lago and the article refers to 3 at Lagos and one at Olhao....that leaves 5 more!!!!
Portugal to receive 10 new hotels by 2010
Portugal is to receive 10 new luxury hotels in the Algarve by 2010 representing a total investment of €1.5b (£1b). The hotels will include eight five-star properties including the Real Marina Hotel & Spa in Olhão, which will comprise a marina, apartments and a spa. It is expected to be completed by 2009 and will be complemented by a 150-room aparthotel. Additionally there will be three developments in the Lagos area, including the five-star 165-room Meia Praia Bay Resort and the four-star 307-room Vila Gale Lagos marketed towards leisure and families.

Lets just hope it doesn't eventually get over developed like so many of the other unfortunate holiday resorts in Spain.

I have just seen a copy of Pestana Newsletter Summer 2007 which says
"Carvoeiro Golf Plans Ahead
The launch of new projects in the Algarve coincides with the distinguished property’s 25th Anniversary. The major features of Carvoeiro Golf’s investment include:
Pestana 5star Hotel adjacent to the Gramacho overlooking
the Portimão bridge boasting an 18 hole championship golf
course.
Formerly known as Carvoeiro Golf, the Pestana Golf Resorts
Algarve contributed significantly to the Algarve’s popularity
as a prime golf destination, and as a major destination for
residential tourism. Carvoeiro Golf has grown and expanded
to more than 500 villas and apartments and has maintained an
unusually high occupancy rate every year for the past years.
Its lavish 54 holes of golf are to be supplemented by another
36 holes and two hotels, turning it into the largest established
hotel and golf resort in the Algarve."
I havent found any other information anywhere else relating to this.
Does anyone else have any other information?

21/2 years ago when we started thinkng about building our villa we saw an advert from an established design/project management company in CVO.
We approached them to be told that they were not taking on any more work as they were heavinly involved in a new Hotel/Golf development being built between CVO and Portimao.
Could this be the one.

I have read the article in the Pestana Summer Newsletter and as GrandOldDuke says they're going to build two hotels and two 18 hole golf courses adjacent to Gramacho overlooking the Portimao bridge!
How can you get to see the plans and identify the specific land they are going to build on?
Is there a right to appeal the planning application?

If this has been going on for over 2 years I doubt that there is little chance of getting it reversed.
I am sure that if you went to the council office in Lagoa you would be able to see the " development " plans for the area.
When we bought our plot our solicitor supplied us with a map which marked out all the plots , roads etc from the original application over 10 years ago.
It was surprsingly accurate.

I see that you are enquiring about the hotel developments again. The latest i heard was from the owner of the Island Cafe at Presa Do Moura who says that Pestana will build one of their two 4 star hotels on the site opposite the roundabout where the old and new roads to Ferragudo meet.
They have to build a hotel for each new golf course apparently!

In addition to the Gramacho hotel development, there are strong rumours of a new "Spa & Hotel" complex to be built in the Matao Serao area south of the CC tennis club. This area is currently a series of 3 vacant agricultural lots bordering the sea on one side, Finisterra to the east, and a number of CC properties to the NE, NW, and Val da Lapa on the west. I have heard that the main entrance to the spa will be through Finisterra, and the development will consist of 45 apartments. Supposedly, planning permission has not been granted but it is pretty certain that it will go through. I am sure that this development will be a huge disruption to the neighborhood, with all trucks and machinery having to go straight through Carvoeiro Clube. Most neighbors are upset by this as it appears to be somthing that will be slammed in without any regard for the impact on a nice residential area. As this is supposed to be an apart-hotel, the developer can sell off the units in fractional shares. It supposedly looks exaclty like Pestana Gardens on the east side of Carvoeiro.
