Hi all

I am still in the process of completing the purchase of a quarter share in a place at Rocha Brava after 7 months!

The money has been lodged in the portuguese solicitors account for the last 4 months - Can anyone tell me whether these client accounts attract interest as when it is finally completed I want any interest back - Which should amount to a couple of thousand pounds at least.

Any advice greatfully accepted!

Cheers

J

They probably attract interest, but I doubt you will see any of it. My only advice from our purchase is to keep putting pressure on your solictor. Those who shout the loudest normally get the best result. It is the Portuguese way of doing things. It took us 4 months to buy, but at least we got there.

Maybe we were lucky, but our solicitor never asked us for large wedges of money. He would give us a date of a required payment, and the amount, and we would telegrapph the funds into his client account a couple of days before the due date.
Is this not a sensible norm?

We had, and still have a good relationship with our solictor and his team. They have been very good to us since we purchased. Also we only ever made two payments, the deposit and on completion. The point I was making is that things in Portugal tend to move slowly. So you do have to do some pestering to keep things moving forward. That was, and is my advice to jimmyp. They don't seem to mind it, and maybe expect it.

Be sure to ask for a set of completion accounts when you eventually complete. I forgot and only discovered by accident that my lawyer was holding over 1800 euro's of my money for 18 months without telling me!
