A very good evening to one and all,
I am soon to be accompanied to cvo with my mother and my aunt ,I wonder if anyone can tell me of a good restaurant off the beaten track were we can experience authentic portuguese cuisine,? aunt doesn't like the chips with everything brit mentality so i would like to go somewhere a little different off the tourist trail iff possible ,even a taxi ride away would be ok.very much appreciate all your replys

I'd certainly recommend catching the bus to Portimao. It's cheap, comfortable and there are a lot of good places to eat. Try a nice lunch and then get a light meal at Ma Ja's in the evening.

try the village inn near estombar i went in may with some friendsit is run by a canadian lady it is only small but very quaint food excellent

Go to the restaurant overlooking the beach at Ferrugado.

Set on the beach above the small kids play area.

Don't know what its called.

Lunch at about 2pm looking over the blue water on Dorada with potatoes and salad, the chhese and pate to start, a bottle of wine, they will love it.

I agree with laser, a nice meal in one of the harbour side restaurants in Portimao..
simple fare but tasty...
sardines, salad,little potatoes in their skins, a nice white wine, cafe com leite or a bica, mmmm
and a perfect setting, blue water, blue skies,sunshine..peaceful

Agree with Ellie. To me essential Portuguse is grilled fish. Once watched a Portugues guy eat sardines in one of the fish restaurants on the harbour in Portimao and it was a ritual of sardine, bread and olive oil, all eaten with fingers not knife and fork. The new restaurants do not have the atmosphere of the ones they replaced, but because of the competion, they are excellent value. An alternative is waterfront Ferragudo, which is more traditional in that the restaurants are much older.

Thanks for all your replies much apprecated,tell me the portimao restaurant by the harbour,is that where the bus from cvo drops you off?near the fountain in the square i believe. Is it possible to catch the bus at night or are they irregular (if thats how you spell it) good day

Moodybo, can you give me more detail where Estombar and the Village Inn are located coming from Carvoeiro. Nice to visit fellow Canadians when away from home. Thanks.
