Seems a few messages from those living or staying in QDP.
Place sounds friendly and nice.
Information on it would be really appreciated as an alternative to stay at for a vacation or to look at in regards to purchase.

We have a villa on QDP, and as I have said on another thread, spend about half the year there. Would not want to live anywhere else. There are just enough residents to create a community, and a mixture of nationalities. It is within 20 minutes walking distance of Carvoeiro centre. Although we enjoy the quiet of Winter, it is also pleasant when the tourists start to arrive at Easter. It's just good to see people enjoying themselves. Should you wish to try it out, we have friends with a rental villa.

Hi Sallyjane - we have owned a villa on QDP for 4 years now and usually get out there 3 or 4 times a year - 10 days and counting 'til our next visit! I would echo Barry's comments - it is a great place for a holiday or extended stay.
The complex is in some ways similar to Rocha Brava in that they were both built around the same time (and, I think by the same people) so it has the maturity of trees/landscape etc that goes with those 30 odd years, they both have central 'amenities' (pools, restaurants, tennis courts, children's playground etc) BUT with QDP you don't have to get in a car to go to the town. For complicated reasons, QDP has not gone the same way as Rocha Brava in that the properties are NOT all controlled by the central management - it is a mixture of nationalities, of residents and non-residents. We have made a lot of friends there - some residents and others like ourselves just getting out as often as we can - I have to admit that most of the people we have got to know are English or Dutch and I regret that, other than through the tennis club, we have not got to know any Portuguese people despite there being several properties near ours that are owned by Portuguese residents. That is probably our fault for not being able to speak Portuguese but may also be because the Portuguese that do live there don't want to get to know us?!! The central management I think gets many of its clients through a German tour operator but there are also a lot of English and Dutch visitors staying there as besides the central management, there are at least 3 other villa management companies/rental companies each representing several properties on QDP. The properties themselves vary in size (from 2-bed apartments and 'cluster' villas to 3/4 bedroom detached villas with decent size private gardens) and quality quite a bit - if they haven't been updated then they can be quite old-fashioned and tatty (old fashioned bathrooms, no air conditioning/heating, no double glazing, no private pool, dark wood everywhere.... - all a matter of taste, I know!). Where they have been 'done up' (as we were lucky enough to find with ours) then they are hard to beat for quality and proximity to the town whilst still retaining a 'Portuguese' feel in their design.
