If you can go Whitsun, it is usually pretty good, are you also tied to the UK school hols? Then Whitsun would be best. If you are based in Scotland you obviously have the advantage of the schools breaking earlier which means you get there early July which also avoids the crush.
Anyway, congrats on your first posting, and welcome to the forum. Happy posting
As a "posting" novice you may not know that writing entirely in capitals is considered shouting in the wonderful world of IT communications, I thought I would let you know just in case you were not aware and before some moron has a go

Bear in mind Euro 04 is being held during June / early July. Some games being played on the Algarve @ Loule' so bound to be v. busy at this time. Fans intend using the Algarve as a base and travelling to other venues from there & prices of accommodation etc. will reflect this!
Unfortunately, Wales are going to struggle to make the finals
Regards to all in CVO

Sorry CM, can't quite grasp if you mean to Lisbon or to Loule, if you mean Loule - 30 mins from cvo on a normal day, but obviously these will not be normal days
. Lisbon (an oft repreated question) attracts estimates between 2 and 4 hours now (don't think there is such a thing as a normal day in Lisbon, even without the football
)

The best way to get tickets is become one the biggest users of paper from a sponsor of the event (Portucel Paper)!!!!!!!!!
There will be tickets for the general public but you will have to pay over the odds. Residents had to register at the Post Office a while back but a little bird tells me most of these will filter into the black market!
I however will be "going corporate" with members of my family and a few close friends (if anybody drops out i will drop you a line)
Most of my waking moments over the last six months have been spent organising around this event so i will be able to see Rooney A.K.A. SHREK ,burst the onion bag in the flesh!

Spare a small thought for those of us that unbelievably don't like the game of 'kick and giggle' (sorry, football).
My family like to come out in June, and this year for the six of us the flights with British Airways cost £858. Next year the price is £2,519, just for flights!! (and yes, this is the CHEAPEST BA economy fare, even booking this far in advance)
Is CVO going to be a ghost town next June? I cant believe people will pay this, and equally don't think there will be enough footy fans to fill the whole place. (more likely to be found in Praia de Rocha and Albefuira I think, but perhaps I am typecasting a bit too much?)

The events of next June are about much more than footy.
Portugal being awarded this honour is about a whole country being thrust into the forefront of the wider world.
Spain amongst others bid for this chance to show off what they could do given a chance and it really is a big chance to shine.
My wife and children (and most of the female members of my family)
deplore football in every way but would not miss a chance to see a country they love and its people host a major event.
It is going to be costly but ........

CM - I have absolutely no problem with that, and I hope that the new multi million Euro stadium near Faro will find a use after the three games that it has scheduled. I DO have a problem with blatent profiteering from British Airways - by all means increase the prices as your planes get fuller, as all airlines do, but to start off with a 300% increase over the previous year's prices is disgraceful.
PS Before anyone suggests Easyjet etc, my (mainly legs) 6'5" frame just does not seem to be in compliance with their view that the average passenger is 5'3", and as I discovered when I did once try it they are quite anti people needing to stand up for the duration of the flight.
