A very good evening to one and all,
my wife and i are very keen ramblers, and were wondering if there are any walks in and around cvo ?.Obviously weather permitting we would be interested in something around 6 to 10 miles . All replies most welcome.

My wife and I regularly do the clifftop walk from Centiannes to CVO and back. Im sure a stalwart like you could expand that!

I can't remember if it is Steve or Roy4eyes or both, but I seem to remember them talking about walks around the Cvo area or a regular basis. Also there is a restaurant in Ferragudo that does organised walks.

I seem to recollect you saying you don't drive but if you can get to Armacao de Pera, at the other end to CVO, there's a large nature reserve that is very popular with walkers. Take your binoculars. The wooden shack restaurant does a great €10 meal.

RTA launches two publications

A NATURE map and walking guide for the Algarve have just been launched by the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA), representing an investment of 50,000 euros.

Start above Paraiso Beach and follow your nose towards the west, a great walk, finishing at Caneiros Beach for lunch or carry onto Pintadinho and then to Feragudo and walk back by road.

If you can get to Albandiera Beach, the cliff walk back to CVO is amazing, via Marinha, Benagil, Carvalho, Clube Atlanico and Algar Seco. It has taken 18 years to get it right but thats part of the fun, even now we get it wrong but it adds to the experience.

I have just ordered a couple of maps from www.standfords.co.uk who produce topographic mapping of the Algarve which should include footpaths (like the Ordnance Survey Explorer series) etc..

They quote 8-12 weeks for delivery though so its worth getting your order in early.

I've been trying to find some info about the RTA publications suggested by Malrc but don't seem to be getting anywhere.

Dewy, how long does that walk take from Albandeira to Carvoeiro?

I would second dewy's recommendation of the walk from above Paraiso beach to Caneiros - takes around 1 and 1/2 hours (with some serious ups and downs) but great scenery. We have been known to 'cheat' and get a taxi back (ask in the restaurant for a number) depending how energetic you are feeling. Otherwise, there are some great rock formations along the cliff going west from Marinha beach to Benagil beach. If you don't have a car you could always get a taxi there and walk back to cvo!

There is a good book called 'Algarve car tours & walks' by Brian & Eileen Anderson - ISBN 1-85690-258-2 which has circular walks in the area. We did a lovely one just outside Silves which went round the headland where the river splits before the town - most of it on a path alongside an irrigation channel - good views of the river and orange groves.

It takes about 2 hrs at a quickish pace without stops. The thought of a Superbock at Smilers keeps me going though!!

I've just picked up a copy of a guide called "Rother Walking Guide, Algarve" by Ulrich Enzel (The finest valley and mountain walks). It looks very good and has got details of 51 different walks along the coast and inland. Well worth a look.

I bought mine from Waterstones but believe it is available on Amazon.

I'd certainly like to see a walking section and would be happy to contribute from time to time.

I think a walking section is a great idea. All we need now is for those of you with 'the knowledge' to pass it on for our delight.

My son is bringing out a book called walking in the Algarve by June Parker on Monday to CVO. So will give some a try and report back.Also think it is a good idea like MC. Be there tonight on good old Transavia whoopee !!!
