Cliff-top walk from Ferragudo to Carvoeiro
Cliff-top walk from Ferragudo to Carvoeiro
Just got back from a week in Carvoeiro with my girlfriend. We got a cab to Ferragudo one day & decided to walk back to Carvoeiro.
The woman in the tourist office told us it was 4km and there was a path all the way, not quite true ! but it was an amazing experience.
We had to clamber around a lot as there were a number of valleys where there were inlets and nowhere to go but down and up.
Some of the beaches along that coast look amazing and seem completely inaccessible on foot, got some great pictures from the cliff tops. We eventually got confronted by a fenced garden after clambering around,
there was no obvious way around so we found a pathway into a very posh looking part of town (there's a tennis club there I think ?). We got back after about 3 hours (with 2 very red necks !), it was very tiring but fantastic, has anyone else ever done this walk ?

Hi Jimmy,
It sounds as quite a walk - if the pictures are digital I would be happy to post them on www.carvoeiro.com along with your description?
Kind regards,
Steen

I walked from carvoeiro to canarias (is that right?) about 20 years ago - with a schoolfriend. We wanted to get the that tower on the cliff. It was ACE and there's that ENORMOUS blow hole too - did you see that? It's just had a tiny wall round it - horribly dangerous. Anyway we got hopelessly lost on the way back by coming home an 'interesting' inland route. I think the whole walk took us about 8 hours.

Ferragudo to Carvoeiro
We have often done part of this walk but from the Carvoeiro direction. From our villa on QDP it usually takes around 2 hours to get to Caneiros beach or one and a half hours to get to the fort. It is my favourite local walk - the views are stunning and you can always have lunch (snack or restaurant) at Caneiros beach to fortify you for the return trip (or cheat and get a taxi back, or do as we did once when we had two cars, leave a car down at Caneiros so you don't have to walk back !)
We have learnt the hard way that you have to go round the many headlands as low and far forward as possible or you end up too far inland to get across the next gorge. It is definitely not for the unfit - a lot of scrambling/climbing up steep sides (3 major ups and downs from the CC area to Caneiros) - so appropriate footwear needed - but worth every minute.
