Deferment of EES

Post by Geoff »

Interesting that the Entry/Exit System (EES) is to be deferred from 10 November as
" three member states had indicated they were not yet ready. Before the confirmation, diplomats in Brussels had identified the countries as Germany, France and the Netherlands. We also have some concerns of the resilience of the (IT) system,
"

what a surprise!

The politicians are blaming the delay on eu-Lisa, a EU funded IT agency specialising in security and border control systems.

eu- Lisa costs member states €300 million a year in addition to their own individual country expenditure on Border control IT.

Seems like "Free Movement" is anything but - it's actually very expensive and difficult to control. Several EU member states are even challenging the principle of Free Movement citing illegal immigration and criminal activity by undesirables.

Ireland are retaining the old system of stamping passports - might not be a bad idea ?

You'll have extra hours in Portugal now!

My concern is , as we won't have registered when we arrive ( 4 Nov) will we have to register when we leave in December. ?...assuming it's operational by then....or do we wait till come out next in New Year?

Wouldn't want long delays in leaving!

Deferred indefinitely and possibly subject to modification. Changes may be as fundamental as giving member states an option to retain passport stamping and excluding fingerprinting from the process.

UK ports and airports have already spent £100 million on EES facilities and the EU ministers are now worried that the project is undeliverable in its original form. Another EU shambles
