registering to vote and dog licence

I finally got round to registering for the vote at the Junta de Freguesia - see Gambrinus' post on 20 July. It was remarkably simple and all I had to produce was my residencia and fiscal number card.

I did this because I had to go to the Junta to report the fact that my dog was now microchipped and have her identity recorded.I also had to buy a dog licence. I was unaware previously that dogs here should be licenced and at an intial cost of €17,50 plus annual renewals I doubt that many of the local dogs are licensed.

Apparently it is a requirement from 1 January 2005 that all dogs are microchipped but I would not put money on a very high take up rate.

Does that mean that if I'm not resident.....I cannot keep a Doggy.......?? That would be very annoying because I certainly do not want to get Residencia but I am pepared to look after a few Stray Dogs.... I already have three.........

Nothing to do with a dog licence - but registering to vote.

We have lived in Portugal for 18 months and went to enquire at our local Junta de Freguesia (Algoz) about this and were told we had to be resident for three years first - is this correct ?? - I only ask because misinformation from different "civil"? servants is a regular issue.

Perhaps G (the fount of all knowledge) can help ??

We have been here for two years and our residencia obviously shows this so the three year rule did not arise in Carvoeiro. If you are an AFPOP member check with them.

Thanks to all (specially Gambrinus - again),

As a member I can contact AFPOP (never thought about that - silly b****r) - but if anything does come from the pres himself I would guess it should be "undisputable" - I have had occasions where government employees still contradict each other even when facts are presented to them in "official" form (unfortunately their English ability seems to dry up then as well) - before anyone has a go I know I should speak better Portuguese but I cannot find a teacher who can accommodate my irregular travel patterns - I have tried several including a CVO.com member all without success)

I need to find a teacher who can work probably on a one to one (or one to two basis with me and my wife and thus cope with different aptitude levels), who is relatively near to Algoz, and can cope with irregular lesson patterns as I am in the UK 2 weeks each month - any clues anyone??.

If your teacher is working on a one-to-one, private basis then you should be able to specify days/times to suit you.

That was how I worked when I was teaching one-to-one in the UK.
