Re: Freemasons Lodge
I asked a civil question and received what I considered a poor reply. Now it seems to have lost the plot!
Contrary to urban myths Freemasons support many other charities, there would be a lot of hospices in trouble without the money donated as would the air ambulances. Along with the Loins and Round Table the Masons also give to the lesser known charities.

Emulation Man - you asked a perfectly reasonable question and expected, as is right, a perfectly reasonable reply. Take no notice of those who scoff and scorn, there are a lot on here who take delight in belittling people. I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Re: Freemasons Lodge
I know a few mmsons, have family connections but it was not for me.
It is for those who take it seriously takes up a lot of time and yes they do support many deserving charities.
As with any organisation their are networking benefits which may have been abused in the past, perhaps it still goes on.
In the Algarve the Rotary seems to be the most active expat organisation with local international groups in Silves and Porches.
A contact who is now rotary and was in the masons said that when he went to a lodge meeting in Villamoura he felt a bit of a twit wlking through the hotel in black tie etc when it was full of holidaymakers.

would have been worse if he was wearing his apron!
Re: Freemasons Lodge
I can remember when the family went through great grandfathers effects two uncles who were also masons boxed up his regalia with due reverence to take it back to the lodge.
It could not stay with the family whe were non members.
I do have his masonic scrolls on vellum which they missed and were passed on to me by Grandfather.

They were all Masons and at that time it was not the open organisation it is today.

Yes, of course, if they belong to the individual but maybe the regalia belonged to the lodge?pato wrote:... of course you can keep them ...

Re: Freemasons Lodge
As far as I'mm aware nothing has changed maybe they're a little more transparent now, but the myth is a laugh, if everyone lived up to the masonic teachings and principles the world would be a better place to live in, most of the foundling fathers in the new world were masons and their constitution concept is based on masonic precepts.EMM wrote:Pato, my GG ws a member over 120 years ago and died almost 60 years ago.
