The Douro Valley
There is a part of Portugal that is so beautiful, as to be stunning, and in places, breath takingly beautiful.
The area is inland from Porto, and stretching along the river Douro across to the Spanish border.
A beautiful wide river, wending down some times vestigious valleys, between beautiful mountains. Hillsides covered in vineyards, lovely and often unexpected small towns and villages.
For those of you who already love Portugal, this is a treat you must not miss....Portugal meets the Rhine Valley.
The ONLY drawback was the cost of tolls......from the Algarve, almost 40 euros...and it will be more when they get the electronic ones a-la the A22 commissioned!!
We stopped off there for the weekend en-route from the Algarve to Santander. We are so glad we did!

Re: The Douro Valley
Did a cruise down the Douro a few years back, well worth the effort.
