we went to O Branco when it first opened and it was disappointing in that it was empty but poor service. The food is average. We do plan to give it another chance, but when we drove by on the evening of 4th January it was open and empty. We are here until 21 January so will let you know.

Casa Algarvia was busy and service was great.

regards

Yes, we are regulars at A Vela, six of us were there Monday evening and we all had really nice meals-as usual

We were a bit anxious about Phoenix Nites , but tried it last night & can thoroughly recommend it. Cosy tables by the bar, genial host & an excellent special menu for 7.99 euro!!......tasty, hot chicken soup, tender pork or chicken with mushroom sauce ( and chips & salad), desert, coffee, port or brandy....all with a small beer or glass of wine.
Excellent value

Whilst I have never ben to O Branco , their "cheap" menu only seems to be at lunch time : in the evenings, it looks very quiet. We would recommenr A Paleta in Lagoa as an alternatve. Very welcomiong with good , fairly priced meals. Veg soup is 1.5 , chicken 5.5, golden bream about 8 with a bottle of wine 4.5. Thoroughly recomended.
Or do both and give us your verdict :)

Have had second thoughts about Phoenix Nites : our meal there the other day was as bad as it was previously good!.....fatty deep fried onion rings followed by fatty deep fried chicken kievs , with fatty chips....you need to check out what the " special " is & be prepared to walk out & return on another, better, day!

Bruce Wallis wrote:Smitsy........if you are going to push out nasty accusations......at least get the name right!!

For the record, if you read the Eat Algarve restaurant website, I wrote a very fair review of Algarve2000

Whilst George is very friendly and charming, he does not enjoy the highest of reputations in the area, and he is well known I assure you, for some very interesting business ventures....I put it no stronger than that.

Also....you have never, or will never hear a bad word about Karen from me. We have been friends for over 7 years. She is the engine behind the restaurant and bar part of that business, and I like and admire her.

So Smitsy......before you slag ME off....get your own facts something like right!!!

Ohhhh, I'm not in CVO at the moment.....but the last time I saw George and Karen, they told me that they would be closing until at least February.
If that changed....fine,,,,,but I was simply passing on what they told me at the time.

As you seem to know me......you must introduce yourself some time.....or do you only do your backstabbing behind a pseudonym........mine is at least done in my own name
Do I see another side of the highly reputable Bruce Wallis here? Well! Well! what a surprise, what you see is obviously not always what you get, and some of the things he's called me. Hope the accusations are unfounded, I was looking forward to meeting up with him some time in the future. Tell you one thing though, I wont be going behind any pseudonym's with him when I do :(

For the record....Algarve 2000 IS open....we were in there Sunday afternoon.
I got the information about being closed wrong....and have apologised to Karen for suggesting otherwise.

Smitty is still to show himself and join me for a drink. Such is the cloak of invisibility :D

It was really excellent!!
Biscay was fine and sunny....we dolphin spotted nearly all day....

We drove down to a lovely town in the Extramadura called Trujillo, stayed in a converted convent,,,,,crap from the outside but wonderfully done on the inside. All gothic architecture
Lovely old town on the highest point in the area with an old castile dominating the area.
Great drive down, all cross country....no motorways.....2 very easy days drive. Brilliant roads, and virtually empty.

Been here nearly 3 weeks now.....settled in, relaxed and happy.....OK it's rained alot, and not very warm....15/16.....but we are very happy.

Having done that trip many times I never cease to be amazed at the variety of sights to be seen en-route. Absolutely fantastic.

You lucky people
