Carvoeiro in September

Me and My Family are coming to Carvoeiro last week September. Is it still busy than, are restaurants still open by than?

Yes R..I found so... was there from Sept 6th to Oct 4th last year..and everywhere seemed to be operating as usual.
Weather was gorgeous too. Only thing we were disappointed in,was square entertainment stopped after second week. It had been great that first week and we missed it.

Forgot to answer your other question R.......yes, it was quite busy....just right actually....plenty of life but not too crowded as in the height of summer.
I imagine its your first visit at that time of year..I don't think you will be disappointed!
I shall be there then myself for long autumn break..so I hope we will be blessed again with fine weather

Hi , I am also going to carvoeiro at this time - from 9th to 30th Sept - 3 weeks - yippee.
Never been to Portugal before and am a bit concerned re the busyness of the area. We've booked a villa in Sesmarias - anyone have any info?
I don't mind really if it's busy as we have a villa with its own pool and roof terrace etc and I believe there are restaurants etc within walking distance.
But I really don't like anything too noisy and full of brits. We like a bit of local stuff.
Have not really seen anything about Sesmarias on this site. Anyone been there?
any info would be brilliant,

TerrisS, I think you will be happy with the Sesmarias area. For our last two trips we have stayed there. Sesmarias is a small, quiet hamlet, with a few small restaurants and a grocery store close by. It's no more than a 10 minute drive to Carvoeiro or Ferragudo. Just this side of Ferragudo there are a few small, quiet beaches. From Ferragudo there is back road that will take you into the old waterfront part of Portimao. The only drawback with the area in question is that you do not have a seaview, other than that it is a quiet, peaceful place to stay. Enjoy your trip.

Hi Will, thanks for your reply. This sounds good to me . I knew there was no sea view but the area sounds quite good - nice and quiet - just how we like it.
I have not really been able to find very much about the area - which is again good as it's another sign that it's aquiet place.

stayed in Sesmarias a few years back. I would agree with the above comments. Its is quite a few shops/bars. If your not a fan of driving abroad then it can be a bit of a pain if you want to get somewhere a bit busier, its not within walking distance of anything major, i guess you could walk to Carvoeiro but it would be a bit of a hike!

Oh by the way, what company did you book through or have you booked the vila seperatly? When we went to Sesmarias we where with JMC and the villa they gave us was crap-not worth the money we paid anyway, very damp,dirty,unkept garden,pool not heated etc. didnt really spoil the trip, Portugal is great wherever you stay.

I am sure you will enjoy Sesmarias (I have a place there myself) and second Matt's opinion that a car is almost essential (unless you fancy a taxi at 8 Euros each way every time you go out).

September is almost the perfect time in the Algarve - the weather is fantastic but not quite as scorching as July/August, and since most children are back at school the place is not quite so crowded, but will still have a great buzz. I don't know of any restaurant or bar that will be closed by then.

Terri, Sesmarias is a very nice place and have stayed there but prefer the outskirts of CVO ie ADM. However, the best part in my opinion is you are close to the beaches at Ferragudo (car required) and Rosa's bar (not required) which sells the cheapest drinks in the whole area and is frequented by the locals and tourists alike lunchtimes and in the evening, better than anything you will see in CVO for locals mixing, priceless. Have a good time, hard not to. Mike

Thanks guys for all the really helpful replies - I'm really looking forward to it - seems a very long way off. But I like hols in September 1, it's a little cooler, 2. it's a little quieter, 3 the little treasures are back at school (ours are grown now!!) , 4. its usually a little cheaper too.
So, all in all, tou can't beat it really.
To Graham, we booked from the holiday rentals site - communicating direct with the owner, which was great. Hope we have a better experience than you did.
