Walk Tuesday 13 November 2018 : Beyond Funcho. CLOSED
Walk Tuesday 13 November 2018 : Beyond Funcho. CLOSED
Walk is now closed as we have enough people.
I am taking a bit of a gamble that this walk will be OK from a fire perspective.....coupled with the fact that I have just heard the the cafe has re-opened. Not sure whether under new management or not, so will have to wait and see....It's closed on a Monday, hence the change of day.
It is the other side of the Funcho, a lovely river walk, great countryside and a bit of a scramble up a bank. There is some tarmac early on, the amount depending on how high the river/reservoir water is and thus how much of the track is submerged. It does contain one longish hill, not too steep.
There isn't a coffee shop/restaurant nearby, but we'll be having a coffee at the O Guerreiro at 0930 and ordering lunches, so come and join us there if you need some caffeine....or would rather follow us to the start of the walk!
The restaurant is not very large, and last time we went, they asked us to pre-order...so please join us there at 0930, even if you don't want a coffee, to choose lunch! (That is, if you want lunch).
It is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come as numbers will be limited to about 20. Thank you. Also, whether you want lunch.
Degree of difficulty : Grade 3 Energetic
Duration just over 2 hours .
Start : 1000...but coffee at cafe at 0930
GPS : 37.2738947,-8.3141676,605
Directions : Drive from CVO to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 14 kms , passing signs for Nora and Benaciate (on the right) and Torres/Corte (on your left). Watch out for the O Guerreiro , where we will be having coffee. It is easily missed. It's on the right, on a slight left hand bend, GPS 37.247962,-8.3170429,605.
After passing the cafe, after 500m, look out for the sign " Vale de Fuzeiros and Amorosa" and turn left.
Drive through Amarosa and follow signs to " Passadeuos, Pedreiras, Vale de Fuzeiros".
Go through the hamlet of Pedreiras , ignore the turning on the left to Vale Fuzeiros.
You then should shortly come to a bridge ; park by the picnic benches before you cross the bridge.
Lunch: this is optional, but will be 10€, and at Casa de Pasto O Guerreiro a short drive away......but please note new lunch price policy at viewtopic.php?f=39&t=27800
Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.
Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk.
Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am but not before 23 October.

Just to add that I checked out the restaurant the other day. It's been refurbished and looks good. The owner said it would be very helpful if people would pre-order before the walk...so, if you want lunch, please stop there en route at about 0930.

Walk is now closed but squeezing in Caroline & Karen.
Re: Walk Tuesday 13 November 2018 : Beyond Funcho. CLOSED
Lovely sunny morning, but cooler by time we arrived at cafe for a warming coffee, only to find it closed, despite assurances it would be open. Mutterings in the ranks, but the gasman arrived and said Paulo would soon arrive. Suffice it to say he eventually did, coffees partaken and lunch orders given : drove to start, only 15 mins late.
19 walkers : Dolores & Nicholas had got their dates mixed up and had gone to the Wednesday Walk start point .....no news from Mags at all.
BTW, if you know you can't come , PLEASE let me know as we often have a waiting list.
Anyway, delightful walk along the Funcho; The water was higher than when I'd been before, so we didn't risk this crossing, diverting to the road: Good climb up to the ruined farmhouse :
where Karen & Caroline mused about another building project....
Onwards and upwards to the trig point:
then back down the valley and a drive to the restaurant for a good 9€ lunch for 13 : with great views:
Nice grilled chicken....beef ribs were a bit tough!
