Re: Casa João
My daughter went the other night and reports;
"last night we went to the pizza restaurant by the water tower. On a Tuesday they do a meat BBQ for 12 euros, all you can eat. Comes with rice, chips and salad which you help yourself to. Had half a carafe of house rose for 4.50 which was very drinkable. Food Was really good and if you keep eye on waitress you can make sure you get the fresh off the BBQ food! So a walkable more Portuguese place at last! (Only on a Tuesday though)".
Hope they still do this in November!

A soggy base may have something to do with the water tower?smudger wrote:What was wrong with it? Soggy base? Not enough topping?barbarella wrote:Worst Pizza ever

Agreed... the pizzas are a bit rubbish.. soggy base, little topping., could not taste much else but tomato sauce.
are the bases hand made ?
chips were also soggy. not cooked enough.
the €12 BBQ was good though.. but that seems to have stopped now. maybe it was just seasonal.
the menu is limited and food just about standard. nothing special at all, little effort put into it and garnish is woeful and non existent on some dishes!?
for me and everyone I have spoke to in the area, we all agree they really need to up their game and standards. every other restaurant in the area is way better.
the new place next to the mini market is packed every night, whereas Casa Joao is always empty - that says it all.
if I was the owner, I would be dining in all the competitions places in the area and picking up some tips.. and they should have a "signature dish".
I really hope they do up their game, it could be very good and they have a great location... and we never like to see places fail or be empty. maybe time will improve it.
