WALK ON THURSDAY 27th APRIL: TWO RIVERS BUT OVER THE TOP!

Post by williew »

I thought we would do the Two Rivers Walk on Thursday 27th April. This is a variation on the Two Rivers Walk around the levada and at the top there are spectacular views of Silves and Portimao.

10am start.

Directions: from CVO , cross the bridge into Silves & turn left on the R124 towards Montchique/Portimao. After a little under 5 km (along an incredibly bumpy road) you will see the Mira Rio cafe & restaurant on your left after a sharpish right hand bend. Parking is at the cafe. They do a good Prata de Dia for about 8€ for those that are hungry!

Stout trainers/boots & a bottle of water suggested! Take your binoculars if you are a bird watcher.

Well, I'm sure it's better than the icy blasts we are getting back here, trust you had a good walk...(and didn't loose anyone)...and a good lunch.

Eight of us on the walk with Bruce & Julia a no show. A wee bit drizzly now and again but apart from that a superb walk followed by six of us having the lunch. Salad, fried garlic chicken, pudding, wine and coffee @ 7.50 euros.

But on the basis that I may as well tell the story before it gets embellished.....

A sluice gate was balanced in the open position by two rocks. I demonstrated the mechanism and one fell off so I crossed the lavada to get another, which I used to re balance it. However, I still had to return and in doing so tipped the balance meaning that both rocks fell in. That meant a second trip for two more rocks and a more careful return crossing.

For some reason my escapades provided some amusement to the rest of the walkers!

Well, it made me laugh and I wasn't even there...thought for one dreadful moment you were going to say you fell in & crocked the other arm!
