Monday 14th March: Gale Beach to Armacao de Pera
Monday 14th March: Gale Beach to Armacao de Pera
After long deliberations with Bruce & Julia we have decided on a relatively simple walk on Monday 14th March.
We will meet at the car park on Gale Beach then walk along the beach towards Armacao de Pera. We will then turn back on ourselves and walk on the other side of the dunes, picking up the boardwalk at the superb Salgados Lagoon and returning to Gale Beach. There are lots of birdwatching opportunities at the lagoon so bring your bins if you have any.
DIRECTIONS:
Take the 125 towards Guia and when you get to the "chicken" roundabout (white statues of chickens) turn right and drive past two sets of traffic lights and then turn right following signs for Apolonia and Gale Beach. Keep going straight down past the turn off for Apolonia and at the next roundabout follow the sign to Gale Beach, drive to the end and park by the cafes/restaurants.
This is a very flat walk which will take about 2hrs, depending on the birdwatching opportunities. At Gale Beach there are lots of cafes and restaurants but we may end up going further afield for lunch!
All walks at your own risk, and usual caveats about weather. If weather is doubtful there will be a posting on the web site by 8.30.
Let us know if you wish to be included to give us an idea of numbers.

Apologies from Linda and Russell we wont be coming. We appreciate you organising these walks but we need something more strenuous with slopes and gradients with panoramic views. Hope to see you again soon. Enjoy the sea air and sunshine.

Something has come up and we won't be able to do the walk. We are heading back to Canada on Friday.
Thanks for everything.

A lovely walk this morning with Bruce & Julia, Mary, Steve & Wendy, Tim, Fran & Dick. However there were not many birds in view at the Lagoon. It was the general opinion that the water level was too high and would you believe we saw a JCB creating a channel out to the sea. The level should drop now.
Afterwards ten of us (Tim's wife Kath joined us in place of Mary) sampled the delights of a new lunch venue, the Dois Irmaos, just off the 125 between Porches and Alcantarilha. Very good at 84 euros for ten!
