Walk No 126 : Monday 22 February 2016, Pocca Barrata. CLOSED
A return of an old favourite!...but now CLOSED as we have enough people.
A 2 hour level(ish) walk in some lovely countryside, ending at a nice cafe that does a mean tosta mixta!...and oppoiste the Station Cafe that reportedly does a good Prato de Dia.
Degree of difficulty:scale 1to 5 .....2 Moderate
Directions.Driving from CVO to Silves, do NOT go over the bridge but continue up the hill with the Hotel Colina dos Mouros on your left.
After 3.7km, fork left where the road divides, in direction of Algoz.
After a further 2km ( 5.7km from the Silves bridge) you will be in Poco Barreta. Park by station on right at end of village, opposite Cafe Snack-bar Sustelo.
Do NOT go over level crossing.
(For those that know the area, you can go inland from Lagoa and come out at a T junction just past the level crossing : in which case, turn left and park opposite cafe).
Start.Meet at 10.00.
Stout trainers or walking boots recommended. Hopefully, sun hats and water as well!
Any queries, please ring 282 380015 before 0900 or between 5 and 6 pm
IF it's very wet, we won't be going. If showery, bring waterproofs......any cancellation notice will be posted by 0830 on the day.
Due to Increased numbers on walks, it is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come, numbers will be limited to 20.
No charge, of course.
All walks are at your own risk.

hi all
Just to say that the station cafe does a prato de dia for 7.5€, or 8€ if you want butter on your bread for the couvert!
They don't need advance booking BUT will need to know on the morning...so please let me know when you arrive if you will be wanting lunch and I'll book it at about 0950 before we set off

21 walkers turned up for a lovely walking morning ; bit hazy to commence, but soon brightened up and lovely and warm
We welcomed back Frank and Iva and Trish, and welcomed Richard & Gerry. Unfortunately, I didn't allow enough time for the self-timer and consequently blocked poor Linda!
We passed the " graffiti house" :
and a route marker, left 20 years ago by Maurice Clyde who wrote a book about walks in the Algarve and started the Algarve Wednesday Walkers :
Passing a herd of goats that were camera shy ( anyone got a better one?):
Before retiring for a well earned drink and an excellent lunch at the station cafe, though what Russell found so amusing about the German Lady Cyclist who took the photo, I don't know:
and just to prove it's still a working station, we actually saw some trains:
BTW, the train from Silves/Esrtombar/Parchal to Lagos is only about 1€ each way to Lagos if you are over 60, excellent value!
