Fake Notes

Post by chrisandclochard »

I run the Donkey Sanctuary Charity shop in Carvoeiro, last week a eastern european couple came in and asked to change a 50 euro note ,which was an obvious fake, so all those in business beware.

We were given a fake 50 when we changed our money in the UK.
I only found out when a restaurant refused to take it. Apparently the East Algarve is awash with them. We will only be asking for 20 euro notes or smaller in future.

So would the business people on this site recommend we stay clear of 50s, even if we get them from the bank?

That's a deal Ron. Now who will sell me dodgy 50s at €2 each?

There is a very simple test for fake notes. On the front of the notes, just about in the middle, there is a vertical strip. If you run your thumb nail across this you should feel the grooves. If you don't feel them, don't accept the note whether it's from a bank or a shop. It is an offence to try and pass a forged note and could land you with a prison sentence if caught. If shop keeper takes in a note and does not realise that it is forged, then they are liable for the prison sentence if caught. Unfair I know but there you go.

And in a charity shop too? Lowest of the low! They are absolute vermin.
