Does anyone know if the name and telephone number is the same as the old for the new restaurant?

We go quite a bit, our maid doubles up as the dish washer / salad prep. If you have a salad and enjoy it buy Maria Helena a drink! (baileys or port)

The food is very good and presented well. The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming.

We were there last Saturday (21st March) and felt sorry for the staff - from 8.30 to 10.15pm - there was only one other couple in there. The staff told us it has been that way for a while. While walking there we passed Julios and as always he was very busy.

Osvaldo laughed it off saying that he makes his money on Sundays when Julios is closed - I don't know :?

I live in the Rocha Brava area and as often I pass by, I see that julio is affected by the crisis like everybody else who has to make a living from Tourism.
It would be peculiar that after 15 years he had not been able to build a steady amount of regular customers.
I think that Rafaiols bad luck is the fact that its first year is around the same time as the worlwide financial crisis, and like you wrote the food and service are ok and we do very much like to go there

The service is painfully slow and the staff rude - we did not wait to find out if the food was good or not. We got our wine and left as we got tired of waiting. We left the money for what we had and the person in charged shouted at us in front of the whole restaurant not doing herself any favours in the process.posting.php?mode=reply&f=22&t=14297#

We ate there last week and it was fine. Very friendly service and the food was pretty good. Main criticism is that the menu is really quite limited, with nothing unusual.

We were there last year about the same time,
Yes they were busy, which is no small wonder during the main season, but there always people who want to go in and eat under 1 hour and when its busy you just have to wait a little, other people waited too and were not complainig a bit. After all when you are on your hollidays whats the hurry?
As usual the food was outstanding (esp. the rack of lamb) and the service was very good ,in particular the person in charge.
We'll be in Carvoeiro again august this summer for 3 weeks and Yes ''O' Rafaiol Alfanzina'' will be seeing us again.

We always go to O Raphaiol when we are in Carvoeiro, even though we stay the other side of the village and have many good restaurants nearby. We first visited the original restaurant on our first visit to Carvoeiro c.5 years ago and received an excellent welcome from the owners. We followed them to the new place and have continued to receive excellent service. We often have my 88 year old Mum with us and they make a great fuss of her. I agree the menu could be a bit more exciting but there's something to suit most tastes, the food is beautifully cooked and presented, and we love the atmosphere, particularly with the fire. We think they've done a good job with a new building to make it look traditional.
