Hi all,

It seems to be very difficult to get any real information on the current state of the portuguese air space from here in the UK. Does anyone know what the Portuguese authorities are saying about the latest ash cloud? I know that all of the flights into Faro have been cancelled until 2pm. Anyone know anything else?

Thank you!

Looks like they are coming in ok now but presumably a lot of return flights will have been cancelled.

Just had word from our friends, who should be on their way home from CVO today, and it would appear that their flight has been cancelled. Waiting to hear when it is likely to be rescheduled!

Yes, due to fly at 21.00 with BMI to EMA but flight cancelled late this morning. Now we are on the 12.30 tomorow, just wait to see whether that one arrives! Only problem is that after a really good period of nice weather it is now c&^p.

With everyone now a committed volcanologist, here’s an extract from Les Propheties de Nostredame (The Prophesies of Nostradamus) published around 1558. It shows a very clear reference to the catastrophic volcanic eruption in Eyjafjallajökull, Iceland in April 2010.

“In the tenth year of the third millennium. Fire from ice will rise like a serpent in the North and split the earth. Rivers of embers will thaw the land. A tenebrose cloud of night will eclipse the sun. Black hail fills the heavens and the birds of man will vanish from the skies. Great trouble will be brought amongst mankind.”

There's no mention of Ryanair though...

We're due out Saturday morning from Manchester. Just had a look at today's arrivals in Manchester from Faro. It seems a Monarch flight arrived back today at 14-09 which was actually several minutes earlier than scheduled. However, a Jet2 flight which was due to arrive about an hour later has been cancelled.

Looks like things are going to be very uncertain this coming week. Don't mind a delay coming home at the end of our trip, but will be a bit of a drag if we can't fly out when planned!

Also the Algarve weather has looked a bit mixed the last couple of days. We need sunshine!

We were quite lucky to transfer to the Sunday BMI flight to EMA; I noticed todays flight was cancelled. According to ANA Aeroportos web site (which is difficult to get onto at the moment due to heavy demand) 320 flights within Portuguese airspace were disrupted today.
