WALK MONDAY 3 APRIL: PORCHES TO ALBANDEIRA
WALK MONDAY 3 APRIL: PORCHES TO ALBANDEIRA
With the exodus of the regular walk leaders I volunteered (I think) to organize a walk for next week. This route is the last pre-pandemic walk I enjoyed in March 2020. It was led by Willie and is a very local, scenic, and not too strenuous hike - Porches to Albandeira.
Here is the original synopsis: This is a superb walk of great variety, starting off through a hamlet, then crossing the dunes, then through a valley to the cliffs between Marinha and Albandeira Beaches then back through the valley. A camera is a must if you have not seen the cliffs! It is no more than a 1 on our scale but there is the occasional short sharp climb. If time permits we will take in Battleship Rock.
The start point is the Cafe/Restaurant known as Casa de Pasto Paragem. Coming from CVO take the N125 heading east towards Faro. Go past the International School and the new roundabout for Benagil and pass the two BP garages. Just after this take the first right off the ‘Porches’ roundabout heading uphill for Porches & Armacao de Pera. There is another roundabout where you keep right for Armacao de Pera. Keep on this main road and after about 1/2 mile you will come to open ground on the right side then the Casa de Pasto Paragem. There is a lot of open ground for parking opposite. This is the start point.
The cafe opens at 10am, so we will delay the start of the walk by 15 minutes for those who prefer to be caffeinated before we head out.
Usual caveats apply, (especially you walk at your own risk)
Start : 1015am start.
Degree of Difficulty ( scale 1:5 ) : 1, easy
Duration : 2 hours 20 mins, but depending on how long we admire the views.
Reservations for 25 (+/-) have been made in Casa de Pasto for 1pm.
If you wish to join us then please post a note on this forum.

Hi Don,
Walk for me please. I may stop for lunch but off to the UK the next morning, so it will depend if anything urgent turns up.

Hi Don
Could you also add two newbies to the walk. Janine and Peter, who live in Carvoeiro and we were telling them about these excellent walks!
They can’t stay for lunch on this occasion.
Thanks
Karen

Re: WALK MONDAY 3 APRIL: PORCHES TO ALBANDEIRA
A great walk today along the cliffs from Porches to Albandeira with a small but hardy crew, and a few new ramblers joining the mix.
The sun was out in full force, and the views were as advertised - spectacular! We took our time along the cliff portion, and we were fortunate that the snack van was on site at Albandeira beach as they have just set up for the season. Beer and ice cream was enjoyed by more than a few of the crew.
My first walk was aided by Willie's trusty notes and a GPS route I had mapped on my iPhone when last trekked in March 2020. Success was achieved as we didn't take any wrong turns and suffered no attrition along the way!
We covered just over 8km in a little over two hours and twenty minutes. A Paragem provided a great lunch at the end and Inge and Rudy have volunteered to lead a special walk next Monday.
I'm off back to Canada soon and look forward to some walks when Wendy and I return in December.
