Hi everyone

David and Mieke are still here. We go out walking in our area, just the two of us, enjoying the sunshine (as well as the deserted beaches). We will soon be the only people left in our part of Albufeira - very weird....

Sue & Steve are still here in Carvoeiro.
We walk our dog Mia locally.
Decided to stay on here rather than attempt to drive back through Spain & France at present.

Sue was virtually there the other day...I peeped at her online zumba class and saw Carol, Wendy, Pam, but not sure where they were!

At least the sun is also shining back here in UK : cooler today, but we had lunch and tea outside in sun last few days.

Not doing much walking as it has to be " local" though Sue out most days...at least the garden is getting some attention.

Being CB not too much of a problem.....can't get an online delivery slot , but our daughter did a big shop yesterday for us and kindly neighbours help with local shops.

Trust you are all keeping well otherwise....we got back from Cambodia just in time as Singapore is now closed to all transit passengers. Keep your 2m distance and hope to catch up in the autumn.....I suspect we will have to cancell our June trip now so will be out in October.

Found some new walks?.....or can you only do local ones too?

BW to all.....glad our Canadian friends all seem to have got back Ok.

Hello everyone,
Nicholas and I are still here, for the duration it looks like since Ryanair have cancelled all flights until June.
We had planned to fly back to Dublin on the last Ryanair flight last Monday but decided not to go at the last minute. We had been in socialisation for a week and a half by then so decided it didn't make sense to be exposing ourselves to the airport/plane/aircoach/tesco back home.
We have been out walking everyday, there are lots of walks within walking distance of the apartment up to the hills and we've discovered lots of new tracks that we'll be doing with Tavira Trekkers after this dreadful virus is gone. We rarely see anyone on these walks and definitely not the police. We are so lucky as hillwalkers that we know where to walk, people who don't walk regularly have to walk in the neighbourhood or perhaps around local parks where other people are gathering.
We are taking our Portuguese class on Skype, which I thought would not be great, but actually I like it. We would soon be very good at Portuguese, but unfortunately while we are good at taking the class we are not so good at doing the homework!
At midnight yesterday Ireland brought in draconian measures. Walks with in 2 Km of your home. And over 70's have to 'cocoon'.
I'm very impressed with how Portugal is handling things. Tavira has been a ghost town for the last 2 weeks. The shops have been fully stocked with people waiting patiently in line, a few people inside at a time to observe social distancing, and special times for the 'wrinklies' to shop.
I'm spending much more time cleaning the apartment than I would usually, and I have created a 'Honey Do' list for Nicholas of odd jobs, that he is not terribly enthusiastic about.

Morning everyone - hope you are all well given the circumstances.
Ails and I are here after driving down from the UK in early March. We missed the clampdown by about a week.
We are progressing the house purchase thanks to some great work by the Solicitor and we also got our NHR status with great help from our Accountant in Lagoa.
We have been walking/running around the local streets and made a couple of walks down the the cliffs.
Very impressed with the attitude of the Portuguese people and that the supermarkets remain stocked and very orderly.
Stay safe everyone and hope to see you all soon.

The council has closed all the beaches in its territory

Because some citizens are not complying with the rules it is necessary to take further measures

With the increasing number of tourists using these beaches it is necessary to close .....,,,

"As forças de segurança tem feito excelente trabalho mas, face ao número reduzido de homens, não conseguem estar em todo o lado. Com estas medidas estamos a colaborar com eles e a proteger a população", afirma Joaquim João, Presidente da União das Freguesias de Lagoa e Carvoeiro.
The security forces are doing an excellent job, but with the reduced number of men available, they can’t be everywhere. With these measures we can cooperate with them and protect the population.

The council is making an appeal to you to be responsible and stay home
Vamos todos ficar bem!!!

Hi everyone
Paul and Janette still here. Doing some short walks on the cliffs, but feel a bit guilty sometimes, particularly when you hear the GNR going round with loudspeakers to stay at home.
Feel safer here than in the UK as long as we don’t get chucked out of our little rented home!

I'm here obviously - from everything i've read Portugal seems a better place to be at present than the UK, nowhere near the same panic levels. Glad your Portuguese lessons are continuing via Skype Dolores and Nicholas, mine are continuing in the same manner. I enjoyed your latest book Mieke, wasn't sure when i started it but a good and thought provoking read. I'm getting my exercise with solo cycle rides, avoiding the towns. Looking forward to the next walk and lunch whenever the lockdown is lifted.

An old Irish schoolfriend of mine sent me this from Oz. You probably don’t want to try these exercises to relieve the boredom.

Best wishes to all,

Happy to hear that everyone in CVO is managing during these trying times. It's nice to see that some folks are able to get out for walks or cycling - I've seen 3 days of snowfall here in Nova Scotia, and those returning from abroad aren't allowed to leave the property for 14 days. I hope to be back in Ottawa by the weekend, and I plan to be back in CVO next winter to pick up where I left off.

Take care all, and keep the updates coming!

Portugal faces at least another two weeks in lockdown after the government decided (Wednesday) to extend confinement measures as deaths from the COVID-19 epidemic climbed to 187.

The government has ordered people to stay at home unless they have to work and to go out only for exercise, within the local area, to buy groceries, help relatives or walk the dog.

A total of 84 people have been stopped by police for being outside without a valid reason and 1,600 establishments have been closed after failing to ensure new client safety regulations.
