Walk : Monday 11 November. Pedreiras/Barragem/Lavada CLOSED

Post by Geoff » Wed Oct 09, 2019 3:39 pm

Walk is now closed as there are enough people.

The Armistace Day walk...please note we shall be observing the silence at 1100.

We are away the rest of the week with the AWW on the Fishermen's trail on the west coast, but can squeeze this in before we depart. Hence we will not be organising any lunch, but cafe Norinho is a good place , on the way back to Silves, for those who want to eat after.

A steady incline through a forest, then a nice gentle downhill slope to the barragem and a flat walk back along the lavada. There is one stretch ( about 50m) along a narrow trail through some scrub, so you might prefer not to wear shorts! The walk is around 2 1/2 hours and a grade 2.5.

Start: 10:00am Meeting Point: Café Retiro dos Pescadores

Directions: From CVO, go over Silves bridge and turn right on N124 for about 4.9kms, driving past 2 cafes, one called " Casa de Pasta a Norinha" and one " Taberna da Norinha", both on the left hand side of the road.

Turn left at a sign saying " Pedreira , Pinheiro e Garrado" and drive 0.4kms : turn left and meet at Cafe Retiro dos Pescadores. Please do not park right in front of the cafe : there is limited parking on the opposite side of the road, but best to park after you turn off the N124 but before you actually turn left.

NB Do NOT turn left on N124 at the earlier sign saying just " Pinheiro e Garrado" , which is before the 2 cafes.

Wear stout trainers/walking boots, a walking pole would be useful, all walks at your own risk and no charge. The café should be open for coffee at the start and end of the walk.

Please indicate below if you would like to join us for the walk , as numbers will be limited to about 20.

Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain.....I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk.

Please advise if you are intending to come, as I am limiting this walk to a max of c20 people.

Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or before 0900, but not before 23 October.

Hi Geoff. I would like to come on the walk only but will not have a car. Could I make a cheeky request for a lift? Happy to cycle over to your hiuse to save you a short detour.

Good day Geoff, I'd like to join this walk if possible. As a retired Royal Canadian Air Force officer I'll also appreciate doing something that recognizes the Armistice.
Thanks,
Don.

That's good Don...you probably know that a lot of Canadians come to the Algarve and Carvoeiro for the winter and about a dozen join us for walks in Jan/Feb/March... including an ex Canadian army major, a paratrooper if I recall.
