Thursday 21 March 2019. Norinho/Silves Windmill. CLOSED

Post by Geoff » Fri Feb 01, 2019 4:48 pm

Please note the walk is Thursday 21 march, not Tuesday 19 March

Walk is now closed as we have enough people.

Our first walk was on Thursday 12 March 2009...no coffees, no beers, no lunch, no photos. Just Sue & I with Caroline and Jerret, see :

viewtopic.php?f=39&t=15588

We'll start the new decade with a similar walk. Rather than replicate the actual walk, this will start from Norinho but walk up to the windmill, then back for lunch!

It's flat along the lavada to start, has 5 minutes of back road and then is all on country tracks, many of them uphill. There is one water crossing ( and re-crossing) but should be fordable if it doesn't rain too much.

Duration : guestimate 2h 30m

The cafe has been tried and recommended : menu and size is limited but they do a good grilled meat or fish prata de dia. Optional lunch price is 8.5€ for chicken/pork/Carapau/chicken with chick peas but 12.5€ for Dorada......but please note new lunch price policy at viewtopic.php?f=39&t=27800 so , as no one will have any change, cost will be 10€ for chicken/pork etc and 15€ for dorada. We will need to order before the walk. See also my post below.

Degree of Difficulty ( scale 1:5 ) : 3, energetic.

Start: 1000.....but please arrive by 0945 if you want a coffee!

Dogs. Dogs are allowed as long as they are under control and are quiet.

Directions : drive from Carvoeiro to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 3.2 kms until you see Cafe Casa de Pasto a Norinho on your left : park in layby opposite.

GPS : 37°12'20.6"N, 8°24'38.0"W
37.2057131N 8.4116553,312W

It is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come and whether you want lunch, as numbers will be limited to about 20. Thank you.

Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.

Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk.

Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am but not before 7 Jan.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THURSDAY 21 MARCH, NOT TUESDAY 19 MARCH AS ORIGINALLY POSTED

Hi all,

We are new to the area, will be hear til April and didn’t bring walking poles nor walking boots. If just plain ole sneakers will work, put Mary and Harvey down for the walk and lunch please.

Hi Mary and Harvey
There are a few steep hills on this walk with quite a bit of loose scree , so I really wouldn't advise walking in sneakers.....a lady wearing tennis shoes slipped and broke her foot on loose scree a few years ago....bearing in mind the walk is full already, I am afraid I'll have say " no" on this occasion.

Some friends of ours will soon be posting details of walks , some of which I suspect , will be flatter and easier.

If you look in Portuguese News when you get here ( usually free copies available at Faro airport), Julie Statham runs " Let's Walk in the Alharve" twice weekly which are less hazardous, but cost 5€ pp.

Bring your boots/walking shoes next time!
