A walk on 3rd Jan

Is anyone around to do a nice simple walk on Thursday 3rd Jan?

I am thinking of Gale Beach to Armacao de Pera along the beach then back via the Salgados boardwalk.

If anyone is interested then I will post directions to the meeting point. 10am start and a gentle flat walk of about 2 hours.

Sounds good to me Willie. Let me know the details if it's on. If you want a lift, I'm happy to drive - if you remember I live opposite Ponto de Encontro.

Hi Willie,

Change of plan. My wife has just told me she needs the car that morning for a hair appointment, so I can only make it for the walk if you or someone else could give me a lift.

We have some takers so walk is on!

We will meet at the car park on Gale Beach then walk along the beach towards Armacao de Pera. We will then turn back on ourselves and walk on the other side of the dunes, picking up the boardwalk at the superb Salgados Lagoon and returning to Gale Beach via the boardwalk - nice and easy. There are lots of birdwatching opportunities at the lagoon so bring your binoculars if you have any.

DIRECTIONS:

Take the 125 towards Guia and when you get to the "chicken" roundabout (white statues of chickens) turn right and drive past two sets of traffic lights and then turn right following signs for Apolonia and Gale Beach. Keep going straight down past the turn off for Apolonia and at the next roundabout follow the sign to Gale Beach, drive to the end and park by the cafes/restaurants.

This is a very flat walk which will take about 2hrs, depending on the birdwatching opportunities. At Gale Beach there are lots of cafes and restaurants but we may end up going further afield for lunch!

All walks at your own risk, and usual caveats about weather. If weather is doubtful there will be a posting on the web site by 8.30.

Mike - delighted to give you a lift - can you walk down to our house at 81AdM for 9.15?

A very late report on our nice wee walk on Thursday 3rd Jan. There were 12 of us: Willie & Carol, Karen & Caroline, Sandy, Mike Almond, Mike Davis & his neighbour and Susan & John plus friend, Nicola. Weather was just nice for walking but not many exciting birds to view at Salgados Lagoon. We then decided on a proper Guia Chicken Piri Piri and Mike Davis' neighbour recommended one - O'Teodosio (on the road to Algoz off 'Chicken' Roundabout). It was just the job but a wee bit more than we normally pay at 18 euros a head. Well worth a visit though if you like Chicken Piri Piri.

I forgot to mention when we got to the end of the beach at AdeP Carlos’ Bar was open and we enjoyed coffees and beers half way through walk! The host was very thankful!
