WALK - MONDAY 3 DECEMBER 2018 ODELOUCA
The walk will start from Restaurant Ourique, near the village of Odelouca. There are a few steep uphill stretches at the start up to the ridge where we can enjoy nice views of the hills and river and a steep downhill stretch on uneven ground. WE WALK CLOSE TO SOME ACTIVE BEE HIVES, WHICH CANNOT BE AVOIDED. The rest of the walk is fairly flat and we can enjoy the wildlife on the Odelouca river. The walk is only 8kms but is a grade 4 (energetic) due to the steep hills. The usual rules apply, wear suitable clothing and footwear, bring a drink, walking poles if you have them, no charge, walk at your own risk. Geoff has asked us to repeat this walk so he can enjoy it too.
Meeting Time: 10:00am. Meeting Point: Restaurant Ourique. Directions: Leave the N125 at the Portimao/Monchique exit and follow the N124 directions Monchique/Silves. At the roundabouts keep right and follow the signs for Silves. The restaurant is on the right side of the road on a sharp bend before Odelouca. Please park just before the restaurant. The restaurant should be open for coffee and they also do a set meal within our 10 euros budget, including tip etc. Linda and Russell will be guiding this walk and the contact number on the day is: 0044 796 0552618. Please indicate below if you would like to join the walk and also if you would like to stay for lunch. Thank you.

I hadn't thought L & R's walk had started too auspiciously, when the cafe was still closed at 0930, but I needn't have worried. It opened in time for a quick coffee in the sunshine, before we set off. I was anxious to learn this walk, but it seemed straight forward enough ; time will tell.
Anyway, a delightfully sunny December day , lots of ups and downs and glorious views:
16 walkers, 4 dogs:
L&R has a new route to the one I recall from earlier this year, which meant we didn't have to crawl under this:
The bridge was picture perfect, with not a ripple on the water;
Timing was spot on at 2 hours, so plenty of time for a beer in the sun...and the chance to admire Sue's water bottle , specially imported from DownUnder:
10 of us stayed for a lovely lunch, the first time ever, I think, that we have managed to eat outside on such a glorious day;
especially, bearing in mind, its only 22 days to Christmas:
Many thanks to Linda and Russell for a great walk, superb views, lovely weather and excellent lunch....with, I believe, 15€ for the charity kitty.

Just to add that I did it today in a rather relaxed 2 h 20 mins ( too relaxed did I hear Russell say?)....but that included about 5 mins on a false trail. Bees were quite active : tempted to do it in reverse in future, easier to go the steep hill rather than down perhaps !
