Walk Thursday 17 May 2018 : beyond Funcho
Walk Thursday 17 May 2018 : beyond Funcho
We did this in March, but I've now added a bit more to it in order to have a 2+ hour walk. It is the other side of the Funcho, a lovely river walk, great countryside and a bit of a scramble up a bank. There is some tarmac early on, the amount depending on how high the river/reservoir water is and thus how much of the track is submerged. It does contain one longish hill, not too steep.
There isn't a coffee shop/restaurant nearby, but we'll be having a coffee at the O Guerreiro at 0930 and ordering lunches, so come and join us there if you need some caffeine....or would rather follow us to the start of the walk! We have never eaten there before, but it looks very promising & I have had some good reports about it.
It is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come as numbers will be limited to about 20. Thank you. Also, whether you want lunch.
Degree of difficulty : Grade 3 Energetic
Duration about 2 hours .
Start : 1000
GPS : 37.2738947,-8.3141676,605
Directions : Drive from CVO to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 14 kms , passing signs for Nora and Benaciate (on the right) and Torres/Corte (on your left). Watch out for the O Guerreiro , where we will be having coffee. It is easily missed. It's on the right, on a slight left hand bend, GPS 37.247962,-8.3170429,605.
After passing the cafe, after 500m, look out for the sign " Vale de Fuzeiros and Amorosa" and turn left.
Drive through Amarosa and follow signs to " Passadeuos, Pedreiras, Vale de Fuzeiros".
Go through the hamlet of Pedreiras , ignore the turning on the left to Vale Fuzeiros.
You then should shortly come to a bridge ; park by the picnic benches before you cross the bridge.
Lunch: this is optional, but will be 10€, and at Casa de Pasto O Guerreiro a short drive away......but please note new lunch price policy at viewtopic.php?f=39&t=27800
Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.
Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk.
Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am but not before 15 May.

A beautiful day, 11 walkers, 9 lunchers , Colin bravely came, despite dropping a door on his foot. Unfortunately, the water levels were high which meant a bit of extra tarmac, but some lovely views and some walking by the water:
Lovely wild flowers:
and a null-points cistus : About 2 h 15 mins, then a short drive to the restaurant, where we had a good meal with lovely views , though I forgot to take a picture!
Getting back to the car though, we did spot this, which is a bit unusual in the Algarve and nothing to do with the wine for lunch...
Thanks to all for coming.
Then the hill....with Colin resting his foot at the top and wondering if this was another DIY job...Lovely wild flowers:
