Walk Monday 6 February 2017 : Aguas Bellas
Walk Monday 6 February 2017 : Aguas Bellas
A walk last done almost exactly one year ago.....and I got a bit lost at the top...so hopefully no such problems this time!
This is the clockwise route , which means going up a long uphill slope!
Overall difficulty ( scale 1 to 5 ) :borderline 4 (strenuous ) due to the long slope
Please also note the walk is quite long at about 2 hours 50 mins.
A circular walk ,north of Silves around Aguas Bellas through interesting countryside, with some small streams, that are usually easily fordable. Please note there is a LONG uphill slope, not particularly steep, but quite long!
10.00am start.
Directions: Drive over bridge at Silves & turn right at traffic lights. At next roundabout take the 2nd exit towards the castle. Passing the cemetery walls on your right take next turn right. Follow this road until you reach the Cafe Terinho on the left hand side, about 4 kms from the roundabout in Silves.
Please do not park in front of the cafe : there is plenty of space alongside the road after it......or in a carpark, 150m on the right after the cafe.
Please wear stout trainers or, preferably, walking boots. Walking poles, sun cream, hats and water also recommended.
If the weather is bad, we won't walk : but if showery, please bring something waterproof.
If the weather turns for the worse, any cancellation notice will be posted here by 0830 on the day ; please check if in doubt...or ring me.
All walks are at your own risk.
No charge, of course.
Please indicate below if you are able to come, as we had to limit numbers to 20 last year.
Any questions please telephone 282 380015, preferably between 5pm and 6pm, but not before 9 January.
For those that want lunch after, I suggest a drink at the cafe and then we go to Mia Ria, about 10/15 minutes drive away, for their 8€ Prato de Dia. Please state if you want lunch so that the restaurant can be forwarned.

Hi Geoff,
I'm walking tomorrow.
Janet and my Nephew and wife have decided not to walk!
Apparently mention of the slope has put them off.
However they would like to join us for lunch. Could you let me have directions to Mia Ria from the A22 please.
Regards John

Hi John
Alternatively, take next exit on A22 , probably signed Portimao/Monchique, drive towards Monchique about 1 km, turn right at roundabout on N124 probably signposted Silves. Drive about 4kms & Mia Rio is on right by a lefthand corner.
see you later
Geoff
Simplest to exit A22 for Silves , drive to Silves, over bridge, turn left on N124, drive about 5kms and Mia Rio is on the left on a right-hand corner.Could you let me have directions to Mia Ria from the A22 please.

Re: Walk Monday 6 February 2017 : Aguas Bellas
A gorgeous day...blue sky from horizon to horizon, without a cloud in sight...nor even a whisper of a breeze....17 intrepid walkers set off, but we never realised that Paul and Jerry were long lost twins:
and where a bit surprised that some were surprised that Aguas Bellas meant a few water crossings:
where Mary M borrowed a couple of bags to help her across, without realising they had holes in...
our faithful husky friend then met up with us & followed us all the way round, though he had put on a bit of weight since last year:
and a belated group photo:
We didn't get lost again, and made our way back, passed a few more water crossings:
No time for drinkies at the bar ordered Russell, lunch booked at Mia Rio at 1300.....so off we shot, somehow loosing Paul en route...but Steve had made a friend of one of the new puppies :
We were joined by Janet and John's niece and husband, so were 16 for lunch...and an excellent 7.5€pp it was too.
Coffee enjoyed in the sun, but no piccies!
