Walk (no 131)Monday 9 May 2016 : Casinhas

Post by Geoff »

It is becoming something of a tradition to end our series of walks with this one : we unfortunately go back to the UK on 12 May but will be back in November.

Track is fairly undulating, nothing (too!) steep, with minimal loose scree. The final descent is a bit steep. Lovely countryside, plenty of orange groves, nice views from the top.

Degree of difficulty : 2 to 3 Moderate , but Energetic in places!

Duration about 2 hours 15 mins.

Meet at Cafe Casinhas .

Start : 1000

Directions:
From CVO, drive to Silves and go over bridge, turn right.
At the roundabout, follow the N124 in direction of Messines.
After about 400m, almost opposite the Galp petrol station on your left, turn right on to " Turismo Rural".
Follow this for about 2.5 kms, when you will see the Cafe Casinhas on your right......they don't open till 1100 but will be open when we get back and do a good Prato de Dia for 7.5€ for those feeling peckish!

Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.

Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0900 on the day of the walk.

Please indicate below if you asre coming as numbers had to be limited to 20 last year.

Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am but not before 26 April or the weekend 29 April- 1 May.

Well, 10 mins ago it was sunny, 5 mins ago it was heavy rain and hail ; now its sun again!

Forecast is thundery, but okish from 1000-1200, so.......walk is on. We'll take a view when we get there , but bring rain gear.

Unfortunately, there isn't much shelter en route in the way of old barns, but there are trees....fingers crossed.

Whilst it rained en route to Silves, it was stopping as we arrived and the sun actually came out, though the local dog was keeping dry under a car;

Colin & Sharon had especially bought capes, but didn't need them:

Having done this walk many times, this marking was nevertheles new to us:

The spring flowers were delightful:

Colin & Sharon thought they would get in a little more exercise before lunch:

Before all retired to Casinhas for a well earned drink , carefully watched by some young swifts, woops swallows ;

and excellent prato de dia ( 7.5€ still):

Walk was about 2 h 25 mins.....and it was dry through lunch and afternoon too.
