WALK ON MONDAY 25th APRIL: SILVES WINDMILL FROM ENXERIM

Post by williew »

In the absence of our esteemed leader Geoff we will lead one of his favourite walks, from the Cafe at Enxerim to Silves Windmill then a few points east. There are some steep hills to climb especially near the start, though the steepest (to the Windmill) is optional. There are some rivers to cross! Duration is about 2 h 30 m, just under 10km. Geoff has rated it a 3 (middle of the scale!). We have a few options for lunch.

Walking boots or stout trainers are recommended, along with walking poles.....and a hat and water...but bring some wet weather gear in any case!

Please note that the walk will be cancelled of the weather is poor. I shall put a note on this website at about 0830 that morning, 0900 at the latest.

Tel +44 7715174723 or if you need more info or email w.whitesmith@sky.com

As usual, all at your own risk, and no charge.

Start : 1000

Directions:From CVO, go to Silves and cross the bridge.
Turn right on the N124 , and bear right over the next roundabout in the direction of Messines. Go past the Galp petrol station , on the left , until, after about 1.5kms from the bridge, you turn left almost opposite the residential guest House Vila Sodre.

Almost immediately, turn right, and park after about 100m, just before the Cafe Cantinho do Enxerim.
If you go over the bridge on the N124, you have gone too far!

Seven of us: Willie & Carol, Ken & Sue, Nigel & Helen & Jane, slightly longer than normal as Nigel is still recovering from his ski accident and Carol from her bout of flu. It was very hot and the walk down through the shady woods was welcome, apart from the bit near the bottom they are clearing! After a beer at the cafe we retired to Cafe Teridos which was mobbed but a table was found for us. The food, once cooked, was superb and we were even treated to some Portuguese music at the end of the meal and some birthday cake.

A nice day and Nigel will no doubt produce the piccies (and the music video!).

Sounds wonderful Willie...Helen reports :

"Well 7 of us braved 26 degrees and walked but we were all gasping by the time we had finished.
We have had a lot of trouble posting pictures due to changes with Picasa???

So we are sending them to you in the hope that you have more luck,
Names of people walking from left to right on pic a are;
Nigel, Ken, Willie, Carol, The Spirit of Geoff, Sue, Helen, and our friend Jane.

The hardy ones went up to the windmill, the others did not!

You will see that we came across you whilst out...
We all agreed that you were there in spirit..."

Whilst I am flattered not to have been forgotten, not too sure I like being associated with what looks a backpack!

Anyway, herewith photos. Can't remember what 26C must be like, its barely double figures back here BUT we fly out tomorow!!
