Monday 14th March: Gale Beach to Armacao de Pera
Posted: Tue Mar 08, 2016 6:50 pm
After long deliberations with Bruce & Julia we have decided on a relatively simple walk on Monday 14th March.
We will meet at the car park on Gale Beach then walk along the beach towards Armacao de Pera. We will then turn back on ourselves and walk on the other side of the dunes, picking up the boardwalk at the superb Salgados Lagoon and returning to Gale Beach. There are lots of birdwatching opportunities at the lagoon so bring your bins if you have any.
DIRECTIONS:
Take the 125 towards Guia and when you get to the "chicken" roundabout (white statues of chickens) turn right and drive past two sets of traffic lights and then turn right following signs for Apolonia and Gale Beach. Keep going straight down past the turn off for Apolonia and at the next roundabout follow the sign to Gale Beach, drive to the end and park by the cafes/restaurants.
This is a very flat walk which will take about 2hrs, depending on the birdwatching opportunities. At Gale Beach there are lots of cafes and restaurants but we may end up going further afield for lunch!
All walks at your own risk, and usual caveats about weather. If weather is doubtful there will be a posting on the web site by 8.30.
Let us know if you wish to be included to give us an idea of numbers.
