Walk No. 123 : Monday 1 Feb2016, Aguas Bellas ( Clockwise)
Walk No. 123 : Monday 1 Feb2016, Aguas Bellas ( Clockwise)
PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF VENUE TO AGUA BELLAS INSTEAD OF BARRAGEM DE ARADE
We have recently done a variant of this walk, and even done this particular one in reverse : today's walk will be a return of an old favourite after a few years! We will check the water levels nearer the time.
Overall difficulty ( scale 1 to 5 ) : 4 strenuous
Please also note the walk is quite long at about 2 hours 50 mins.
A circular walk ,north of Silves around Aguas Bellas through interesting countryside, with some small streams, that are usually easily fordable. Please note there is a LONG uphill slope, not particularly steep, but quite long!
10.00am start.
Directions: Drive over bridge at Silves & turn right at traffic lights. At next roundabout take the 2nd exit towards the castle. Passing the cemetery walls on your right take next turn right. Follow this road until you reach the Cafe Terinho on the left hand side, about 4 kms from the roundabout in Silves.
Please do not park in front of the cafe : there is plenty of space alongside the road after it......or in a carpark, 150m on the right after the cafe.
Please wear stout trainers or, preferably, walking boots. Walking poles, sun cream, hats and water also recommended.
If the weather is bad, we won't walk : but if showery, please bring something waterproof.
If the weather turns for the worse, any cancellation notice will be posted here by 0830 on the day ; please check if in doubt...or ring me.
All walks are at your own risk.
No charge, of course.
Please indicate below if you are able to come, as we had to limit numbers to 20 last year.
Any questions please telephone 282 380015, preferably between 5pm and 6pm.
For those that want lunch after, I suggest a drink at the cafe and then we go to Mia Ria, about 10/15 minutes drive away, for their 7.5€ Prato de Dia.

Re: Walk No. 123 : Monday 1 February 2016, Aguas Bellas
The Glorious First of February....brilliant sunshine, cloudless skies , hint of a breeze...and Apalonia said 24C when we got back! The last time we did this walk in the clockwise direction was Feb 2013, 3 years ago!
Anyway, Helen decided to show off her new walking skirt, though Russell wasn't interested:
The water levels weren't very high, but Gill still thinks a foot full of water is cold!
Paddy shows how to do it....
Our friend , the husky dog, joined us as usual.....though he's putting on a lot more weight!
Les Girls had to prove they had got to the top of the gruelling incline, with Mary en route and Viv taking a breather:
The tracks at the top had been widened over the last few years, and your leader mislaid the route back down. Fortunately Russell & Alan absailed down the cliff ( well, almost) to find the correct trail and came back to rescue the rest of us...except, that some of us had gone wandering off in separate directions. Anyway, suffice it to say we all met up and safely arrived at the foot of the mountain/cliff/hill where the spring water provided some excellent reflections:
and our husky friend could cool down;
It was almost 3 hours by the time we got back to the cafe, 11kms; no time for a beer as we had to drive off to Mia Ria for lunch.....where,much to our pleasant surprise, we met old friends Mike & Su who had been walking at Pedreira and had also gone there for lunch.
The usual excellect 8€ prato de dia was enjoyed.
Thanks all for coming, hope not to get lost again in future.
Feb 2013 walk is at :

but only John, of the current group, was there ( apart from me!)
Sorry, forgot to get a group photo, but Nigel took one, so hopefully we will soon see it.
