Walk 3rd June 2013; Cortes & Torre
Walk 3rd June 2013; Cortes & Torre
This walk is the "Hilltops & Orange Groves" walk (from Julie Statham's book page 48) which Geoff lead back in January. It covers part of the popular "Vale Fuzeiros " walk.
Duration about 2.5 hours.
There is a cafe at the start/finish for refreshments. Lovely views.
There are a couple of fairly steep climbs & whilst the paths are generally good , there is a downhill one that has loose scree & it is advisable to wear boots & have a stick. Good trainers should suffice.
If damp, bring some wet weather gear.
As always , bring some water.
All walks are at your own risk.
Directions :
From CVO, go to Silves and cross the bridge.
Turn right and follow the EN124 towards Sao Bartolomeu de Messines. After about 12kms, you will see a turning on your left signposted " Cortes" and "Torre". Turn here and drive to Torre, about 1 km. Park by side of road......there is a steep carpark on the left before the cafe, or best to park by the side of the road, on the right, just before the hill. ( coordinates N37.23979 W8.32869)
Please meet for a 1000 start.
Any queries please ring Mike on 937658245

Re: Walk 3rd June 2013; Cortes & Torre
Good luck, Mike & Su...this is the one that Sue & I got lost on a couple of years ago!......just remember that once you get down the hill ( at the start, once you turn off the road) you basically walk along the trail at the bottom until you come to a right hand corner with a stone wall on your right...actually, it's almost a T junction....then turn right & keep on....good luck!

Thanks Geoff, will report back, (unless we're still walking round in circles lost!) Hope you're both ok. love Su & Mike
Re: Walk 3rd June 2013; Cortes & Torre
Six of us met at the café in Torre, with the option of free blood pressure tests courtesy of the Cãmara. We then enjoyed a lovely, and rather warm, walk through the orange groves leading onto the Cerro da Vilarinha for a peek at the menhirs before returning via Amorosa for a well earned beer.
Geoff, I have to confess to leading us into an orange grove cul de sac just before the right turn at the stone wall, but with the help of a rather puzzled farmer we were soon back on track

Who's the guy in the brown monk costume?
Re: Walk 3rd June 2013; Cortes & Torre
A walker who ignored the advice about wearing a hat & carrying water, so shrivelled up?
