Walk Monday 19 June 2017 :Casinhas
Walk Monday 19 June 2017 :Casinhas
Please note change of venue.
A fairly gentle walk, as we hope to be off hashing in the evening ( ask if interested about that!)
Track is fairly undulating, nothing (too!) steep, with minimal loose scree. The final descent is a bit steep. Lovely countryside, plenty of orange groves, nice views from the top.
It is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come as numbers will be limited to about 20. Thank you.
Degree of difficulty : 2 (Moderate) but 3 ( Energetic) for one hill climb of about 100m.
Duration about 2 hours 15 mins.
Meet at Cafe Casinhas .....but it will be closed at 0900, hopefully open for a coffee/drink after. They do a good prata do dia for c 8€, but we won't be stying for lunch.
Start : 0900
Directions:
From CVO, drive to Silves and go over bridge, turn right.
At the roundabout, follow the N124 in direction of Messines.
After about 400m, almost opposite the Galp petrol station on your left, turn right on to " Turismo Rural".
Follow this for about 2.5 kms, when you will see the Cafe Casinhas on your right......they don't open till 1100 but will be open when we get back and do a good Prato de Dia for about 8 € for those feeling peckish!
Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.
Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0900 on the day of the walk.
Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am .

Hi Geoff. Janice and I want to make this walk. We will have two walking friends staying with us - Brian and Linda - with whom we have done walks in the Andalusia white villages, so hope to pursuance them to join us. Will let you know if there is a problem

Hi Geoff
Apologies, but Janice and I cannot now make the walk. Our friends have changed their flight arrival date/time and we have to pick them up on the Monday morning of the walk.
Have a great walk.

Re: Walk Monday 19 June 2017 :Casinhas
7 of us turned up at Casinhas on a lovely warm summer's morning...not a cloud to be seen, temperature " only" mid 20s, with an occasional breeze...we welcomed Barry, our third youngest ever CVO Rambler.
We passed some new ? orange orchards:
and paused at the top of the rise for our group photo:
l to R : Barry, Ken, Sue C, Rose, Wendy, Sue H...representing Ireland, Scotland and England...no Welsh walkers?
and then some strange orange trees, presumably painted with some insecticide?
Whilst we were prepared for Casinhas to be shut at the start, so no coffee, we weren't prepared for it also to be shut at the end! A helpful guy in a car stopped us on the way back & guessed we were in search of a beer; he directed us to a local un-named cafe , only a couple of hundred yards away, where we enjoyed a nice cold drink!
Cheers...hope to see you all in November.

Hi Geoff et al,
Coming over today (26th) until 27th with my 14 year old son. I hillwalk regularly with a couple of groups at home near Bantry in West Cork, Ireland and my son is very athletic and usually makes me look like a geriatric. Would love to get in a walk or two while over if there is anything on the cards. Thanks. Can swap the favour if someone coming to West Cork sometime.

If it's not too hot, I suggest you try one of the self-guided walks..Caldas de Monchique or Luz to Burgau.
Good luck.
