Hi Ann
Was getting a bit worried that we would be on a solo walk, glad you can make it...any preferences?

Hi Geoff,

You know me .. they all look the same to me

I am sure whatever you choose will be fabulous with no biting insects, no stinging nettles, no steep inclines, no steep declines, just the right amount of sunshine, lovely views, and a nice cold beer to finish!

see you soon,

A ..

OK Ann !

Details as follows:

Degree of difficulty ( scale 1 to 5 ) : 2 Moderate...some say borderline 2.5!

As it could be hot, we'll start with steady incline through a ( hopefully shady ) forest, until we get to a crossroads, or rather cross-tracks.
We can then decide to either :
(a) loop back via the trig point ( bit uppy-downy )
(b) walk through more cooling forest along then a nice gentle downhill slope to the barragem and a flat walk back along the lavada. If we go that way. there is one stretch ( about 50m) along a narrow trail through some scrub, so you might prefer not to wear shorts!
(c) loop away from the trig point, and back along the ridge

About 2.5 hours for (a) and (c) : (b) probably 2h 45m

Directions: From CVO, go over Silves bridge and right on N124 for about 4.9kms, driving past 2 cafes, one called " Casa de Pasta a Norinha" and one " A Coriana" , both on the left hand side of the road.
Turn left at a sign saying " Pedreira , Pinheiro e Garrado" and drive 0.4kms : turn left and meet at Cafe Retiro dos Pescadores.

Please do not park right in front of the cafe : there is limited parking on the opposite side of the road, but best to park after you turn off the N124 but before you actually turn left.

NB Do NOT turn left on N124 at the earlier sign saying just " Pinheiro e Garrado" , which is before the 2 cafes.

Start : 09.30 am.PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF START TIME

Wear stout trainers/walking boots....a walking pole would be useful. Sunhats hopefully recommended, but some wet weather gear might come in handy.

Please note that the walk will be cancelled of the weather is poor. I shall put a note on this website at about 0830 that morning, 0900 at the latest.

All walks at your own risk.

Please indicate below if you are intending to come.

Any questions, ring 282 380015, before 0900 or after 6pm....but not before 10 June.

The clouds looked unseasonably grey/black but they cleared during the morning to give some good patches of blue between whiter clouds ; in fact, absolutely ideal walking weather. We welcomed Andy, Jim and Gill along with the return of some very familiar faces, 14 in all. The walk was just over 2hours 10 mins, 7.9km according to Mike's GPS.

and passed masses of butterflies on the way back:

before enjoying a well-earned drink:

some stayed to sample the menu and we look forward to hearing their reports!

Finally, the Silves castle flags looked brilliant in the sun & the wind:
