Why no events and only ramblers on this topic ?

I find it frustrating that we have this topic and yet the only posts are for walks. At the same time I hear people complaining that they have not heard of events until they are over !!

I have spoken to Steen about this and he rightly says that because of the lack of response regarding non-walking events he can see no reason to change things. I personally feel that sporting and social events should be under separate topics.

The ball then is in our court. If anyone hears of an event - such as the recent superb OktoberFest or the upcoming musical at the Lagoa theatre - can they not please use this heading to publicise them. If restaurants and bars have special evenings with jazz, fado etc. can they not use this site to publicise them?

If charities want more support for their events can they not advertise them on here ? Do they not want to maximise their funds ?

If social organisations such as Rotary, Masons, AFPOP, Lions, chess, investment, pottery, woodworking, wine appreciation, dining clubs, etc. want people to know of their existence why do they not use this medium ? Do they not want new members ?

At the very least make people aware that the Camara produce monthly booklets indicating what events they are producing or sponsoring.

Come on folks lets know about these things rather than spending winter evenings staring at the TV screen or computer terminal. Tell your favourite restaurant or bar about the free publicity available for events - athough I guess payment would come into it if menus start appearing

Well, I guess the Ramblers are more Social than sporting these days......anyway, to get the ball rolling, there's an APAA Dinner & Magic Show at The Holiday Inn in Pera on Saturday 19 November. Once full details are out, I'll post them here!

There's also the Algarve Hash House Harriers ( the drinking club with a running problem).....though it's mainly a walking problem these days.....meets every Sunday at 2pm ( in the winter, Monday at 6pm in the summer ) at a location in the Algarve. Anyone interested, please ask or PM me.

...and The 10th. Grand Variety Show at the Lagoa Auditorium on friday 25 November..

This year the money raised is for the ‘Bombeiros’ of Lagoa and also the the ‘Sea Life Savers’ who have all done a fantastic job this year.

Great Geoff. I hope we now get more people coming along with hitherto unknown events :D

If forumers know of restaurants for example who have regular fado/music nights either let us know or ask them to let us know direct.

Great idea - I often look in this topic in the hope that there may be something. Not doing anything about it myself is a poor excuse, so I will endeavour to post if I come across something that's going on when we're in the area.
